Accurate Flavour Weight Measurements

Well done you! How do you find your recipe compares to what you could have bought in the shops? My initial attempts had me reaching for purchased liquids but as I’m progressing my liquids are becoming increasingly vapeable.

I'm really pleased with my Mint Choc one. Up to now I've been vaping a 60ml shortfill of Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream I bought from Rejuiced. I wouldn't say mine is quite up to that standard just yet but it's pretty close and a very enjoyable vape. Mine has a slightly dryish and slightly chemical after taste. I think I should have left the main lid off for longer to let some of the chemical gases evaporate away. Also I'm going to try making some slight changes to the recipe using different brands of flavour.

My second recipe is a reasonable vape but it definitely needs more work.

Increasingly vapable?
If you don't like the Custard Donut and V5 I'm giving up mixing Lol
Lol! I haven’t tried either as they have been steeping for the past week, as per the “how to reduce steep time” thread. They are 8 days in with no VG/PG now and I plan to mix them tonight and leave for another day or two. Might give them a wee toot tonight though, they do smell awesome!

Good stuff. I have found the same dryness and chemical aftertastes at times. I’m not completely sure what is causing these symptoms but I have now mixed 3 recipes that don’t have them. Sounds silly but I suspect that I wasn’t shaking the mixes enough (a really, really vigorous shake seems to make a difference). I also changed the air in the bottles and left the lids off, which I think helps as well.

If you think of chemical off notes like carbon dioxide in fizzy drinks.
Shake the bottle and remove the lid and the fizz escapes.
With juice just shake the juice up then take the lid off and expell the air by squeezing.
Any chemical gasses get released and just repeat a few times a day and it will be gone before you know it.
If that doesn't work one of your concentrates is probably not upto par.

How brainless am I? LOL

I didn't think to try squeezing the old air out after I shake it.

What I'm doing though is I'm leaving the drip tip on but leaving the lid off (apart from, while I shake it) so chemical gases can evaporate away but at the same time trying to avoid any big spills or dust contamination.

I don’t think leaving the lid off is recommended.

I'm slightly confused then because I've seen quite a few people mention leaving the lid off their mix while it's steeping. Perhaps they just do it for short periods so I'd be grateful if someone could elaborate a bit. I've just mixed up a new 120ml batch tonight.

It was common practise back in the day, to leave the lid off for a few hours to 1. get rid of some chemically challenging harsh mixes., by allowing stuff to escape and introduce new air.
2. Allow the air bubbles to disperse quickly if you whisked the living daylights out of your mix.
Trouble is you can also lose flavour, bottles got bigger, allowing for more air to mix ratio, concentrates got better n smoother, and the practice died out.
There is no harm in it, if your mix is harsh, Im sure to this day that some of my mixes taste better half way through the bottle, why because air has been introduced every now n then.

After shaking, take the lid off and expell the excess air out of the bottle. You can leave the lid off for a while but not for too long.
