Hello there.
This isn't my first post - my second, actually - but I'd like to introduce myself by saying that after giving up smoking 10 years ago I've always craved nicotine and despite having promised myself and my other half never to smoke again (which I've kept) my ears pricked when I became aware of these devices. Almost a month ago I thought I'd give it a try and I'm loving it despite a guilty pang at first, which I'm over now as I'm sticking to my promise while enjoying a whole new form of indulgence. Could this be my middle age crises? Haha

Yo ! Actually that is an interesting point about not stopping craving. While i was smoking & during my giving up period i spoke to a number of older (Than me) ex smokers who had given up say 10 or 20 years earlier & the common point they each stated was that they still fancy a drag from time to time. They will smell it on their way out of a restaurant or wherever & immediately feel like having a smoke.

Here's a little point that my doctor once pointed out to me... "It's about retraining the brain, learning new habits but UNLEARNING OLD ONES. However, if you have smoked for a say X number of years & it is deeply imbedded into your mind, even after a long period of time away from it if you were to smoke a cigarette again your brain would recognize the behavior straight off & know how to react to it" ... This is is probably exactly why many people relapse !

Now though, never fear because vaping is here !

Haha - what did it for me was the promise I made to the other half as a marriage condition - "either give up that disgusting habit or the wedding's off!", she said ... Been a good boy since.. But vaping is a whole different game! I hear what you say, I had previously smoked up to 3 packs a day of marlboros reds, luckys, etc on and off for about 15 years before quitting for good (ahem). Like you said, I'd stick around my work mates whenever they'd smoke and such, hoping to get some of that passive smoke.

:welcome1: & WOW! I never thought that a non-smoker would STILL crave nicotine after that length of time.Perhaps the passive smoking meant that you'd not actually quit, just reduced your smoking to such a level that it only appeared you'd quit.Since I quit smoking though,I have decided I detest the smell of burnt tobacco such that I'll avoid following a smoker even in the open air(as I can now smell cigarettes from upto 50 yards)I first noticed my improved sense of smell a couple of months after I switched to vaping when I followed a lass into a stairwell & it was a mixture of poor personal hygiene + similar to shoving your nose in an ashtray.

I feel like that too. Went out for few pints on xmas eve & late in the evening i pinched one of my mates rollies , it was disgusting ! Only a drunk fool would try this , yeuch. I ditched it after two or three drags & went back to my e-cig. I still had no choice though about WHERE i went to vape & had to go to the outdoor smoking area with all the smokers. Haha, some of them look at me funny !!!!
Honestly though i can't stand tobacco smoke smell any more but i don't want to come across to my mates as a hypocrite as they all smoke.
