Just watching & waiting to hear the report. Something about Welsh health ministers trying to ban it......

Alright, it was one of those brief reports & concerned the decision of weather to ban e cigs in the same places as affected by the smoking ban.
From what i keep seeing, living in wales, it might really happen because the Welsh gov are pretty backward.

Just heard it in 6music. Wales are banning them in public places due to "health risks". Not sure if it's definite or proposed as it was only a quick sentence in their very brief news.

Here's a link to the rough idea... http://wales.gov.uk/newsroom/healthandsocialcare/2014/140402publichealthwhitepaper/?lang=en

“I have concerns about the impact of e-cigarettes on the enforcement of Wales’ smoking ban. That’s why we are proposing restricting their use in enclosed public places.
“I am also concerned that their use in enclosed public places could normalise smoking behaviour.
“E-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive, and I want to minimise the risk of a new generation becoming addicted to this drug.
The White Paper consultation seeks the views of as wide a range of people as possible about these proposals. The consultation will close on Tuesday June 24.

If you live in Wales & want to have your say - http://wales.gov.uk/consultations/healthsocialcare/white-paper/?lang=en

All i will say is, keep it constructive & on topic if you want to respond & have your say to the white paper. They will only dismiss abusive comments or opinions which don't address the direct proposals. It's a chance to have a say, so don't blow it.

C'mon Cymru !!!

For info:

What are the White Paper proposals?

The proposals in the White Paper are grouped under three key themes:

The first theme focuses on improving health over the life course, through proposals to introduce a national tobacco retailers’ register, restrict the use of e-cigarettes in public places, introduce a Minimum Unit Price for alcohol, and develop nutritional standards for certain settings. It also asks for early views about legislation on smoke-free outdoor spaces and internet sales of tobacco.

The second theme outlines proposals for building community assets for health, through strengthening the role of Local Health Boards in planning public health services through community pharmacies and improving access to toilets for public use.

The third theme of regulation for health presents a proposal to introduce a National Special Procedures Register to regulate standards for activities such as cosmetic piercing and tattooing.

Yeah I woke up to the Welsh health minister on radio 4. The whole purpose of the smoking ban was to protect those who don't smoke from the harmful things in cigarettes.

Now they think it's okay to push one group of non smokers out with the smokers into harms way because they think someone will confuse an ego (or for that matter a vamo or hammer) with a cigarette.

Genuinely, is there any evidence to support normalisation through use of vapourisers?

Having seen the small minded 'quit or die' mentality of the Welsh government, it might be difficult to convince them to rethink this.

Personally, I think a social media campaign titled Tobacco Harm Creation, that show how their knee jerk, small minded attitude could end up doing more harm then good to smokers, should be started and run in the run up to this white paper. Embarrass them and question their moral/ethical stance as much as possible... in effect, use their own tried and tested tactics of demonisation against them.

They are the bad guys in this after all... the public need to be made aware of this and their policies should be ridiculed and discredited at every opportunity, so that the public know that the government are being coerced by 'hard core' elements within the tobacco control industry, that are just bitter that vaping is seen as being more successful than their 'quit or die' policy... at zero cost to the taxpayer.

@vaporsizer is correct that abusive commentary will probably be disbarred from the public consultation but there is nothing to stop Welsh citizens from responding politely to the consultation, whilst at the same time participating in a tandem campaign of discrediting the government proposals.

As you can see, there are some really serious issues for them to consider ! HA ! Makes me proud to be a council tax payer with a voice.

Regarding the ecig matter, they know about as much about it as nothing ! Another case of being seen to be addressing the matter in the eyes of their naive voters & i think we can expect rash decisions.

This government don't represent me & i'll have my say but i don't expect it to land anywhere & make an impact unless enough people do the same & respond to the white paper. I'll write my response to them later when the day has set in.
