just purchased the above, and i CANNOT for the life of me, get decent flavour out of this thing. its either muted, metallic, or generally crap - i have been using a nautilus 2 tank and the flavour is great, and i bought the Berserker because of all the positive reviews on the flavour and quality of the tank.

tried the stock coils, 28 gauge Kanthal (6 wraps 1.2ohms) 2x28g kanthal, 28 gauge SS, and a couple that i got given by my vendor. have tried multiple spacing, contact/non contact, sub ohm, 2 different cottons (Native Wicks and Fuzz)

was careful to look out for contact of the coils and hot spots, tried dry burning, and not dry burning on the kanthal at least....

im at a bit of a loss....

im using the ZAP juices, 50/50 mainly but also some 70/30 and some element juices.

any help would be appreciated, standard builds for MTL vaping? any special treatment of wire? cotton tips?

thanks a lot for even reading my frustrations.

scurries back to my nautilus.

Hi @Johniom, welcome to potv. I love the berserker so much I bought a 2nd. I’m not really sure what to suggest. I have used the coil it came with and built a coil at about 1ohm using kanthal (I think 0.35mm or 0.4mm). I use both muji and cotton bacon v2.

I generally use 50/50 or 60%vg juices. I generally use 70+vg juices just for subohming.

It could maybe be that the cotton is a little too tight so it’s not wicking enough. Or if it’s wicking well enough it could be worth upping the wattage slightly, particularly with the higher vg juices.

I have not tried the nautilus 2 for comparison but for me, I think the berserker is on a par with some of the real classic MTL tanks (Kayfun lite plus and heron v1.5 and ubertoots etc.)

Let’s hope we can get it working for you...

hi @Johniom .

I'm vaping on my Berserker mini right now. I recently coiled and rewicked, The coil is 3mm ID Kanthal 26awg ohming out about 1.16, so I think it was 8 wraps. the wick is muji, 12mm wide with the front and back stripped off, probably around 10-12mm sticking out either side of the coil and into the wells. Juice is a 60/40 and tastes great.

For you I'd suggest starting over and washing out the tank to clean out the metallic taste then rebuild as above. Let us know how you get on :D

The above wicking tips sound like the best bet but also make sure your coil is directly above the airhole underneath and that is very close but not touching, like 2mm or so. A spaced coil is generally the easiest to get vaping coil, as it glows from the inside out and doesnt burn cotton as quick as a micro or clapton.

Also wattage or temp is important for flavoir and wicking. Make sure you start low and slowly increase to see if it improves. Its also possible the juice in question needs shaken and/or steeped more before using.

If all else fails, strip the tank down and leave in the sink with warm water for a few minutes and dry thoroughly.

Post a pic of your build. The berserker blows the Naut2 out of the water for flavour. Doesn't even compare. Chalk and cheese.

All good advice here.

I just got a Beserker myself and my first attempt using the stock coil was also muted/metallic/cotton flavour. However I had a feeling I used too much wick through the coil, was planning to wrap my own coil and try agin, haven't gotten round to it yet.

Yep as said I can't fault it. I can understand it being a little tight, airflow wise for some but it's a real return to the old school flavour machines of old for me.
Is yours a genuine or a berserker style. As mentioned the style ones may still be a little full of machine oil.
My mini came with vandy vape mtl clapton coils as standard which where mighty warm but not short on flavour. I've since put in my usual 27awg 1.1 ohm coil in and it's delivering flavour as good as rta' s that cost five times more.
Hell as good as anything I've used.
As with all mtl tanks with a tight airflow, I wouldn't recommend high vg juice, 50/50 is my preference. Higher vg juices tend to require lower ohms and higher watts to bring out the flavour. There's a few exceptions but generally that's a good rule.

thanks for the advice, ill try washing out the tank and doing it all over again, i mostly do use 50/50 juice but thought i would try others just in case.
I have a genuine berserker, when i get home from work ill take a photo

thanks for the help!

From the metallic taste you are describing it sounds like you have hot spots, you also have to check where you trim the leads as they can short.

As people have mentioned, keep the coil >0.5-6ohm keep it central and just over the airflow hole, ideally as close as possible.

I also recommend a fair amount of resistance when you pull the cotton through and thinning out the tails a bit, this helps wicking, I've used 80/20 in it without issue.

Hope it helps.

the hotspots were i think an issue initially, as my experience with this is very limited, but im pretty sure i have addressed that, my coils now have a nice even glow beginning from the center when heated. i also striped the whole tank, and cleaned with Isopropyl alcohol, im still dealing with muted flavour tho. ill keep trying.
