Got a kick in the post today to try and work out the sweet spot on my kayfun. Popped it in and it worked like a dream for about an hour.

Then it started firing intermittently, firing sometimes and not other times. My firing button also felt a bit sloppy and not as springy as normal. I checked my build on my ohms meter first, to make sure that was still sound, which it was so took it apart to have a look.

Took everything apart and noticed the kick was now loose inside the tube and on closer inspection the little springy button that sticks out to make contact with the tube has recessed and is no longer springing out to make contact. It now doesn't fire at all!!

I've contacted the vendor, boxed it all back up and gone back to a kickless mod. Back to the drawing board

Oh that is a bugger, what wattage is it you are trying to hit again?

I worked out that I'm liking about 9-9.5w on the Evod and kanger vv, but with the kick on on the 4nine the flavour was good at 9w but the vapour was quite hot and harsh.

But....since taking the kick out, I've built a 1.3ohm coil straight on to a 18350 in the 4nine and it's pretty good so far. Flavour and vape definitely as good as the Evod, if not better, but also better than I had with the kick in it. Works out at about 10.5w I think?

You can simplify things a bit, because I think the way you are investigating this is backwards. I don't think it's the wattage that's the most important factor, it's the resistance and the size and position of the coil.

In my experience, which isn't huge, mechs struggle with anything over 1.2 ohms, so use that as your starting point.

Play around with a couple of builds with different juices, you'll soon find your ideal build.

One thing you will find with the mech without the kick is that the vape varies depending on how fresh the battery is. You might find it a bit hot and harsh on a fresh battery, but perfect on something that has been used a bit. I try to change my batteries a bit before bed so that I am not vaping on a fresh battery first thing in the morning. This could be part of what you are experiencing.

I think I'm focusing on watts because most of the APV's use this as standard...but I guess a mech is a whole different ball game.

I'm happy to say that I am enjoying my vape right now. 1.3ohm nice high coil, not fresh 18350 battery and no kick.

So at least I have a very good starting point for future experimenting

Yep one good vape is a damn good start, then it is just a question of replicating it so you get a good vape every time, after which comes the fun of improving it :D

Thanks Diche, I think you're right about the battery. I have learnt that I like my vape as flavoursome as possible but I do prefer a cooler vape. The hard hitting throat burning vape is definitely not for me!

I know I have a lot to learn yet, but I'm proud of how far I've come since buying my first garage bought starter kit less than 3mths ago, and I'm looking forward to perfecting my builds in the future.

All I know is that I'd be lost without you lot and the mine of information you have all shared with me...so thankyou xx

In my experience a mech will happily go to 1.6 and even 1.8 on a fresh battery.

My go to build is 1.4 which works great on my mechs.

Keep at it DakotaMai Won't be many days before you are a kick free, reckless, mech mod vaper and just bung your atty on and vape the fekker regardless of ohms, watts, volts and/or any relevant physics laws. :yahoo:
