Coil Wire Question

Thanks @JohnnyAce Appreciate the advice, never thought of Steam Engine so thanks again :)

Bookmark it it's an essential coil/ wire building resource :2thumbsup:

For single strand claptons, you just calculate it as if it was a single wire, so you just use the core wire

@LordOdin I use two 28awg fused core with 38awg wrap wire, 316L or Ni80 for mine. Series builds I use kanthal to keep the ohms up.

I'm Scottish... you think I'd pay some fecker to turn wire?

Some good advice here, pretty much everything covered.

Steam engine is deffo your friend. Especially the wire wizard section, have a good play around with that before you do your build to gauge your ohms.

Little tip on the daedulus, give the jig a little nudge back with your finger to start it off. For me this helps it find its groove quicker. And also dont be disheartened if your first efforts arent that good, especially if you use the 40g that comes included with the daedulus as its super thin and quite a difficult gauge to start off with.

Not sure what youre after @LordOdin but worth noting the main point of the outer wrap is ramp up speed.

The thinner you go the quicker it will ramp up the coil.

10 gauges thinner than your core wires is ideal.

Not forgetting the increased surface area of the wrap and all the little nocks and crannies acts as a great wick too.

Ni80 round clapton wire, 26/32awg. Buy it or make it, nothing better out there.

Daedalus Coil Making Kit
Wow, I use a cordless drill to straighten my SS. It makes it much easier to wrap around the 2.5mm machine screw for my spaced coils. I have done it this way ever since I watched a Rip Trippers video on coil making. It worked wonderfully for the Kanthal wire I started with. When I started using SS316L, I found it was too springy and straightening it made it much more manageable. I'm amazed at the apparent ease of the Daedalus, I always wondered how the coil makers wrapped the high-end coils. Thanks, @LordOdin, for posting your intent to wrap your coils and the Daedalus Coil Making Kit. I've never heard of it and enjoyed the couple of videos I watched. Definitely, keep us all informed of your coil making. It would be fun to play around with the kit, Papa Jerry just may have to get a new toy to experiment with coils and using a couple of RDA's in my stash. :yoda:
