Coils giving burnt taste very quickly - advice to avoid?

I adv 50/50 @ 11 watts using innokin zenith tank and coils 1.6ohm coils and I need to change coil every 3-4 days..
I vape same as when I smoked..I never prime new coils but I do let new ones sit for 5-10 mins prior to first use..
I feel your vaping to hot/high wattages.

Also - first - prime the coils manually by putting drops of liquid directly on the coil through via the wicking holes when
you replace the coil, then assemble, fill tank, leave 10 mins. (1hr is overdoing it).

= look up vids on youtube for ' coil wicking '.

Well in the Nautilus X I'm vaping almost exclusively Red Astaire flavour (which I don't think is overly sweet?), 6mg, 50/50, 1.8 coil at between 14.3 and 15.7 watts (it's rated 12-16 watts) - as said before, am priming and leaving for about half hour before using. I'd say an average hit for me is about 3s. And I probably get through 2ml and 4ml of juice a day. All MTL.

From what's been said, sounds like the problem is either:

1) starting off at too high a wattage - I usually start at around 14 with a new coil but within a few hits will move up to the range I mentioned above - maybe it's worth me vaping a new coil at around 12watts (or even lower?) for a while before moving up to the more flavoursome range?

2) vaping like smoking, i.e. too many hits in a row, until not enough juice in cotton and it starts to get burnt.

Things is, 1) Is easy enough to remedy, but 2) less easy... Sometimes you just want a good few hits in a row, and often I think I do this without even realising e.g. while concentrating on something else - and from what I understand, chain vaping till cotton too dry even once can be enough to ruin a coil.

I have read the Innokin Zenith or Jacvapour coils last longer, so may get one of these, or try the whole RTA thing (have another thread on the go about this btw, sorry for any overlap!)

Anyway, if there's nothing else it can be, at least I know what's going on and can try and avoid.

Though is it possible to be more specific on how many hits in a row is too much (e.g. 3s hits), and how long to leave in between to be safe?

Sounds like a good analysis from skimming what you wrote. I think starting with watts too high is the main issue. Maybe try getting into tc if yr mod supports this well.

Get yourself another device? You should have a backup at least anyway. Why not keep both out when you feel the need to chain vape. Or get into rebuildables. It's prob something you'll do at some point in the future anyway.

Just had a quick google of what TC is, and yes it does sound like a good way to avoid burning coils (and getting more consistent flavour)! My mod is an "eleaf istick TC40w" so would support this - I'm pretty sure none of my current tanks (nautilus x, T22s, T18e) support TC though (?), but I am about to buy another tank - was going to try a Zenith (from what I've read in reviews, the Zenith's coils have better tolerance for chain vaping), but are there any good MTL tanks that support TC I should consider instead?

Yeah, analysis seems spot on.

Issue 1) Vaping at the low wattages you do this may be a red herring but worth doing just in case.
I think the reasoning behind starting at a lower wattage is why shock the coil and cotton to their upper limits immediately. Start lower to ‘break’ them in. Your not vaping them in the beginning merely breaking/ bedding them in.

Issue 2) This is more likely the problem, chain vaping on stock coils with small wicking holes. The coil cannot replace the juice quick enough. You take hits in quick succession and the cotton drys before it has time to soak again = burnt taste.

Good advice above = breaking in + wicking issues are at play here. Will have a think re. alternate tanks - it is though just different coils you may need for tc - stainless steel ones (ss). You can likely get these for yr current attomiser/ tank.

While the suggestions posted are spot on, they aren't going to really help when he starts chain vaping will they? Or am I missing something?
