I remember that.
Missus has tried to do that several times to me over the last few years.......................
I remember that.
G'night @Social MisfitI'm off for some kip now
nite
See I understand your point Rickster - for me I reckon the fact we are an island is exactly why it’s got so bad.
Once it was in it was in - I do think we didn’t start soon enough you are right - I still reckon tho it would have gone the same way (maybe slower) remember the first week or two of lockdown was a joke out there with people ignoring it - that would still have happened .. just sooner
this is one of those we will never know things ...
We like to think we are.Maybe not but still higher.
Is the UK not supposed to be an advanced nation compared to some of these other countries, so should have been better prepared.
We cant even get some plastic protective gear for our health service, but we sure know how to clap our hands.
Fat load of good that done us.
What we should have done from square one is shut up the borders
No planes, No boats and closed the channel tunnel.
As an advanced nation we should be self sufficient.
Fear does seem to be a relevant factor.
You can see here that the Asia/Pacific countries report more fear than Europe or the Americas
https://today.yougov.com/topics/international/articles-reports/2020/03/17/fear-catching-covid-19
You can look on the same site for how much these populations trust their governments.
Fear of the virus and trust in the government are both related to compliance with rules and lower transmission.
There are so many factors at play that there are no easy comparisons.
Russia doesn't seem to be doing much better than we are .................Trust in the government, well that's Russia fucked then.
Fear of the virus, no chance, withe enough state supplied vodka.
The problem is that there are so many different variables in play - population, population density, that we are an island, the government and their response, the public and their behaviour, the list goes on. It's kinda pointless to compare death rates as there are huge differences between how countries record deaths, the quality of their healthcare and how their people behave. What we have to concentrate on right now is how to protect people, that is what is important, we can go through all the who, what, when, where, why, how later.
Has the government made mistakes? Yes
Has Boris made mistakes? Yes
Has the public made mistakes? Yes
Has there been a whole lot of other factors we have considered and not considered? Yes.
Let's all do what we can to stop people dying, stay safe, keep others safe and then investigate and learn when this is over.
30k deaths is not hype....it's a fact.
A wee stream , not quite a river
