What's new

Coronavirus UK Daily Statistics

If we had shut down borders as early as we knew about the virus (at least December 2019) that would have made a huge difference.

If we had locked down on March 12th instead of Boris dithering and waiting till March 23rd that would have made a huge difference.

If lockdown actually meant lockdown instead of a semi kind of lockdown - go to work if you can't work from home - type lockdown it would have made a huge difference.

Just to add most care homes across the UK were locking down around March 12th so obviously knew how this would pan out.

I think so, I don't know about your circle of friends/colleagues etc, but back then I get the feeling it would have been seen as a massive overreaction. I thought we should have been way more aggressive in trying to nip it in the bud so to speak. I can honestly say that wasn't supported by most people I know though. Even when lockdown happened a lot of people were up in arms over it. I don't envy the people that have to make these decisions.

Another of my hero's.

"All hail to the Ale"

Apart from you of course @Crewella you would be a "white wine for the lady"

Okay boss.

Just out of curiosity I'll pose a question to you.

When pouring boiling water on your hand it burns you so we say that its obvious that pouring boiling water on your hand would obviously burn you.

If i ask you Bez would pouring boiling water on your hand burn you i guess you would say based on your stance above that unless you actually do it you'll never know and that i should say may burn, might burn, could burn.......

Not at all mate.
You see there is plenty of evidence, both passed verbally along the generations, and documented in science & medical journals that pouring boiling water on the hands, or any other body parts will cause burning of the flesh.
So I will answer yes, it would burn you, it is a definite proven outcome.

However you suggestions as to what you think may have helped contain the covid viruse more effectively are not based on proven documented cases.
On the contrary, some countries that imposed more severe lockdowns are still having new infections / deaths, and sporadic outbreaks requiring further measures.

Scald, not burn, although dictionary definitions often describe or define a scald as being a burn, it's not. You have specifically referred to boiling water, you have been scalded, not burnt. I hope you are well, and not burnt or scalded :2thumbsup:

Not at the moment, but with working as a fabricator welder for years, and then in a plastics company with 220 C dies, at one point I used to be called asbestos fingers as I could lay a table with plates out of the oven. :)
Mind you I might be burnt, or scalded by the time I get back from the pub this afternoon. :18:

I wonder if there's research going on in the kettle sector - scald-not-burn products? :D

Just to update - a better explanation:

Start a rumour that kids are getting high off boiling water

I can second that, very early on, before lockdown was even on the cards, I think this was before whuan went into lockdown, most of my mates were of the mind that it was just another cold, I told them I had a feeling it was going to be bad. There's still plenty not taking it seriously now and I predict we'll end up in another lockdown. As much as it is nice to be able to go out now, I still think it was too early to ease things, personally.
