What's new

Coronavirus UK Daily Statistics

sturgeon just announced today they are making it mandatory, as opposed to just guidance.
I seen that earlier, another "why wasn't it always that way". I'm just back from the pub, got too busy for my liking, I can see them being closed again now.

Why is everyone so concerned about pubs? Im mean, of ALL the things to be worried about, pubs?

Is it the dartboards?

It's different things for different people, for me it's all my local live music venues, for others it's where they eat out, for others is where they meet their friends, for some yes, it's where they play their darts or pool. There wouldn't be any grass roots darts without pubs, no county leagues, no proving ground for future professionals. For others it's where they quiz. I would be very concerned if pubs started shutting down for good, the implications would be huge.

I totally understand the social implications. But in reality thats all it is, the worlds not gonna end if people cant socialize like they used to, especially if its only temporary. Yeah its gonna suck for a while, just like the whole mask thing sucks, but it definitely wont be forever. Pubs going out of business is a big concern, but there r plenty of ways to counter that. If not, than implications would be huge...for pub owners.

Whether or not they come up with any sort of treatment, eventually everyone will have either caught it and died, or caught it and not died, or there will be a vaccine. And until then its gonna suck.

Maybe it'll even suck enough for china to start putting some food quality standards into place, who knows, stranger thing have happened.

Edit: as long as the pub has fire insurance and someone in has a lighter they r gonna be ok :-)

the mega rich could have their money impounded, to be invested in new local cooperative social centres where we can all go post lockdown to drink fine beers and wine flowing free from the tap from the communal store, brewed in the new community brewing centres.

i should have gone into politics.

We only need the 10 richest ppl. In order to save society as a whole, i think i am ok with siezing the 10 wealthiest ppls assets. They should be ok with it too. They wont be ok with it, because to be those ppl means that u r undoubtably a greedy bastard with absolutely no caring about anyone else in the world, but they should learn to be ok with it

it’s interesting this happened in aberdeen. it has (or at least did have 10 years or so ago when i was there) the highest density of pubs per population in the u.k. there is a big drinking culture in the city. it was possible to drink 24 hours if one was happy to frequent the casino for a couple of hours before the 6am places opened.

In Ayr at one time it was possible to get a drink over 22hrs
Night club shut at 4 am and the harbourside pub opened up at 6 am for the fishermen.

To be honest tho, we would need a massive distribution of wealth from corporations and probably the entire top ten percent to fix the real situation.

Sorry to get too 'economically serious'
But yeah, a few hundred billion would definitely be plenty to drink the problem away tho.

We have to have some balance, we can't all stay indoors indefinitely. What are we going to do if there's no vaccine for a year... or two?

Mate i have shielded from the start due to my health. I will shield again when i get back to the UK Sunday. I don;t want to but because it is the right thing to do in these times. As said i have been waiting for a cure for Diabetes for 40 years still nothing. So i have no choice but to put up with being Diabetic and all the problems that can arise. I wish i could say oh i'm fed up of it and not follow the rules (test blood sugars at least 4 times a day take insulin every day) but if i did it would lead to my death. It also has limited me to not do things i would have liked to for instance boxing. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. I am just pointing out that folks who want to return to how things where before covid should be more patient. Even if they find a cure in 5 years it is still better than no cure for 40 years and still no cure after that. Lockdown is like Insulin without it people will die
