Been puzzling over this for a while, but not come across any explanation...
The recommendation is to have a tight coil. But that's giving a helluva heat to the small volume of cotton within the coil; and the vapour will be trapped within the tube of the coil, if it's tight.
Why isn't it better to space out the coils, so heat is applied to a greater volume of cotton, and to give juice a free route to vaporise?
I know I'm missing something(s) important here, but can't think what it is!
