So I'm in the market for a DNA 200 mod, my only issue is I don't like the size of most as it's difficult to carry around/put in my pocket.

I do like the size of the vaporshark dna200 but I'm not a big fan of its design, so I had a light bulb moment...

What's to stop me from making my own DNA200 mod but smaller?

All the DIY kits enclosures are pretty big, and I was wondering if I got the kit from @stealthvape and had a custom box made for me elsewhere (I have my eyes on stabilised wood but it's not decided just yet) could I make one the same size as the VS?

I mean clearly VS have fit the chip and organs in, so I'm guessing it IS possible. I'm ok with having a small 900mAh lipo in there.

Any advise and info is greatly appreciated!

200w mod + 900mAh LiPo = VERY SHORT runtime, even running sub 40w. You'd be lookin at carrying a fair few spare cells. Then you'll need a dedicated LiPo balance charger.
TBH, you need a minimum of 1300mAh LiPo to make a DNA200 mod useable, even at that, once you get into the neighbourhood of 100w or over the runtime drops rapidly. :)

Got enough run time?

As far as I'm aware a 900mAh lipo 3s is roughly equivalent to a single 18650, now considering the DNA chip supposedly runs in a more efficient way it would be the same as (if not a touch better than) using a regular single 18650 device.

I vape around 18-36w as standard but I would like to have the ability to use at a much higher rate when I play about with builds and make bigger/more intricate coils. So my concern isn't exactly the battery it's just the physical size of the mod.

I need something small/compact.

So the idea is to (and please don't flame me for using this term) CLONE the vaporshark DNA 200 mod but using my own layout and material. Size wise it's perfect, but as I mentioned in previous post I do fancy the wood box idea.

With my 900MAH DNA200, it is comparable to a single 18650 mod. I use it around the range you do-but I still find it is my least used device out of the DNA devices.

I find the Efusion to be my most used Li-Po powered DNA200, with a 1300MAH Li-Po.

You may well find the 900MAH to be sufficient though, but if you are planning on using bigger/more intricate coils, I would suggest a slightly higher capacity battery.

I hope you find something that suits you well, and also around the size you want it to be :).

The second you start making boxes out of wood, the size increases just through material thickness alone. The vaporshark is small because it's made of thin alloy and its internals are really packed in there. To make something similar out of wood with the same internal layout is almost certainly going to make it bigger, or if not very flimsy [emoji1]. It is possible to make a small wood mod but your always going to sacrifice something to keep it small. With the dna200 it's going to be battery capacity (it still won't be that small), with a different chip, say the sx350j it's going to be battery capacity and available power and you'd probably still struggle to make it as small as the Vaporshark.

The smallest wood mods I've seen use Istick chips and 18350/18500's. Not a lot of power or battery life I'm afraid.

Which mod do you have that's 900mAh?

I've found some smaller set ups housing 1000mAh for the DNA 200 which I may lean towards but again the compact size is a decider for me. I don't mind charging during the day etc I think that is better suited for me than to carry around something pretty big

!!!! Can you use that bad boy to jump start the car ! lol I've a couple of these sitting doin nothing. I've a half notion of trying to source a box that would suit these and a DNA200 board. :D

I'd imagine you could mate!! It's not mine though :P

What about simply buying the VS dna200? Once materials, time and the dna200 board are all factored in I'd find it difficult to believe it would be cheaper building your own. Plus, the vaporshark has 2amp charging (which is additional to normal dna200s). This offsets the tiny battery problem to a certain extent as it can be charged faster.
