Afternoon Apes,

I’ve just been notified by my employer that I am now in a consultation period for redundancy.

This is not a ‘please feel sorry for me’ thread, just thought it would be a good place for anyone else in the same position as me to share any advice or help as it is a very distressing time.

What’s funny is I hope no one replies to this thread and won’t need to!

Cheers

Jason

Sorry to hear this have you read their redundancy policy and looked up your rights?

I've moved your thread to the Covid Discussion area, although debated Dark Side as I expect a lot of swearing as this goes on.

I went through this last year.

In my case they needed 10 redundancies from around 45 people in our department so they then had to create criteria to winkle it down from 45 to 10 and explain their reasoning and how they came up with the 10.

Luckily they created/absorbed 8 of us me being one of them into alternative positions/departments and two decided to accept the redundancy package.

You could do with finding out what the package is which will be based on years of service and age, and how they've come to their selection criteria which should be explained to you as part of the consultation process.

Thanks @Miss Pepper . Yeh they are a large well known subsea and robotics company so they are doing things by the book so far!

They have told us that there will be new positions available to apply for, but these are also open to external applications. In total there’s 140 redundancies. In my workshop we are losing 8 techs out of 20. But they techs who score high enough and are safe, will still have to reapply for their jobs as they are changing the job titles

I work with ROVs so this is a direct result of the oil crash. 80% of our work was cancelled

Okay seeing as the jobs are new positions open to everyone including external candidates it doea look like you could get redundancy and re employed at the same time so you could be in for a win win.
I maybe wrong so you ought to do some more research and ask as many questions as you can.

Here’s hoping! I’ve been through it before in 2016 so luckily I know how it works. The scoring system is a strange one though, we are being score on the usual ones like Absences, disciplinaries, experience in the role. But also on Flexibility, communication and teamwork. As far as I’m aware none of this has been recorded. My line manager and supervisor were both told their positions were redundant and left immediately. So I am unsure how that scoring will go and who will be scoring us, as we only ever dealt with them

Hi matey

Thats a bit shitty! Sorry

U never know how it will pan out. The criteria will be hard to score if your direct line manager isn't there to score the teamwork etc.... criteria.
That will be interesting as they will have to prove it.

Dee xx

Sorry to hear this fella....stressful time, hang in there, you can only do your best and hope.
