Long post, sorry.

So,four weeks ago I mixed up a batch of Swedish Fish and split it into the following samples to try different steeping methods.

Bottle1 Fridge - unopened for duration.
Bottle2 Fridge - opened once a week to breath.
Bottle3 Dark cupboard - unopened for duration.
Bottle4 Dark cupboard - opened once a week to breath.
Bottle5 Kitchen table - unopened for duration.
Bottle6 Kitchen table - opened once a week to breath.

Last night I mixed a new batch of Swedish Fish to the same recipe (70% VG,20% PG and 10% flavouring at 11mg) . I took the six original four week old samples plus a sample of the new mix in the same style bottle and left them over night/day in the shade in my living room soall samples were at the same temperature when I vaped them.
(If you are mixing Swedish Fish I'd recommend 20% flavour, I held backfor this test.)

Tonight I...
Filled seven SR Boges using the condom method and allowed them to settle.
and
Filled seven Vision eGo LR V1 short wick and allowed them to settle.

Now, at this point, I should have smelled each one and scored them but stupidly I didn't and as I now can't smell anything but Swedish Fish it would be a bit pointless.

The Visions I vaped at 3.4V on an eGo, the Boges I vaped at 4.2V on myProVari.

I got a set of results, hid them from myself, had my dinner (which tasted of Swedish Fish) and tested them all again. The results agreed so closely that I consider them the same.

THE RESULTS

Winner– The Refrigerator unopened over the four weeks. On flavour and throat hit there is no doubt about it. At only 10% flavouring this still managed to have some of that Swedish Fish fizz.

JointSecond – The Refrigerator aired, Dark Cupboard aired and Dark Cupboard unopened. Plenty of flavour and TH, just not quite as much.

I should point out that the difference between first and second wasn't huge but was noticeable.

Joint Third – Kitchen Table both aired and unopened. It had flavour butjust didn't really have that Swedish Fizz Pizazz. No real TH. These samples went very dark over the four weeks.

Fourth– The Fresh Batch. Had TH but the flavour just didn't have time to come through properly.

BUT

Vapour quality! What became obvious was a difference in the quality of the vapour. All the samples produced good vapour but each of the samples that were allowed to be AIRED over the four weeks each produced a much denser cloud. On exhale these samples all tended to hang around just that little bit longer. A noticeable difference. I wasn'texpecting that.

CONCLUSIONS

Well one batch of tests is hardly conclusive but...

A certain amount of steeping is definitely needed to help flavour mature.

If you want flavour and TH these tests suggest storing your mixes in the fridge in smaller bottles (so air doesn't get in to a big batch while decanting). If you have kids then store in a dark cool place.

If you want big clouds with acceptable flavour and TH these tests suggest storing your mixes in the fridge in larger containers (so air gets in while decanting). If you have kids then store in a dark cool place.

Only decant enough for one or two days at a time. Don't have a large 30ml bottle sitting around for weeks.

Filling seven Boges in a row is a pain in the ass.

FURTHER

When I can be bothered I'll try this again with a different flavour. I would really like if someone else gave it a try.

Mate that's going the extra mile! Well done for persevering with that. I don't mix myself but I'm sure folks will find that very useful. I've never put any juice in the fridge. Great post. I hope someone else will have the patience to test this too :)

Brilliant work, and great choice of flavour to test on. I love Swedish fish when you get it right, but if you don't the fizz is really effected.

I deliberately kept the mix down so it would be easy to detect difference in flavour (I hoped). Worked a treat.

I have a massive nic headache at the moment.

That had to of taken a lot of patience. I would have done myself in.

Idea, since you use heavy VG, vg is absorbent, do you think that the liquids could have absorbed moisture from the air hence the denser thicker vapour?

That was some test OP. I keep my El Toro Eden in the fridge - on the basis that the cool slows down oxidisation and preserves the appley tatste.

What a thorough post ... Not into mixing myself .. but If i ever do get the urge .. I will be referring to this.

Is PG not absorbant? Dunno?
Could be that it absorbed some moisture but I don't know if that affects vapour.
I'm a big bag of don't know.

I figure this will apply to premixed as well. Some premixers will advise on time to steep, Pixie Juice for example.
