Sorry Mods was not sure where to put this up so please move if it dont belong. Anyhow just a heads up for any vendors or those thinking of setting up a website. A new UK Domain will be rolling out on June 10th, you can pre - order for £4.49 a year plus vat. More importantly, if you own a .CO.UK domain you have first right of refusal to pre-order your identical .UK domain.

All these new domains drive me nuts. I am wondering if I should get them to protect my business or not. I registered for the .London one. Don't like the .UK much. People are so used to .co.UK I dont think they get used to .UK anytime soon

If you've already got the .co.uk you don't need to worry about protecting the .uk for 5 years by the looks of things...

"How does the reservation period work?

If you have first right of refusal to a .UK equivalent of your current domain it will automatically be reserved for you for free for five years from the launch date, as long as you keep your current domain registered. If you decide you want to register your reserved .UK domain, you can at any point between the 10th June 2014 and 10th June 2019.

If you decide not to register the new .UK equivalent domain before the 10th June 2019, it will then become available for someone else to register. If at any time you decide not to renew your existing domain, the .UK equivalent will automatically become available for someone else to register."
