Forum response to disposable vapes

I`m going to be perfectly honest and say that I would prefer for advertising revenue to pay for my privilege of using this forum rather than pay a subscription, If that means that I have to put up with disposables adverts on the periphery of my vision that`s OK, if they were to pop up in the text I was reading then that would be a different matter, and I`d decide whether I could live with that, but that would be my personal choice.

The owner is probably the only person who knows the true monetary cost of keeping this forum open and free to use and I think that he should be the one who decides in what direction we go.

In my opinion as long as disposables are legal and some smokers are using them to quit then it is reasonable to advertise them here on the UK premier forum, and if needs be we hobbyist vapers can take comfort in knowing that each DV sold online is one less sold to an underage kid by a newsagent.

I propose a prominent link to a sticky thread / article about the damage that disposables can do (to the reputation of vaping, as well as the environment), with suggestions for moving away from disposables to more positive alternatives.

Then there won't be any reason to reiterate points or argue the toss on every thread, we can just link to that one, respectfully worded, source of information. I understand the need to not alienate new vapers or to create an inhospitable environment for those who sell / use them. But personally I think we should discourage their use wherever possible and make it clear why we are doing that.

IMO we should be a source of good information, not judge, jury and executioner.

That’s a great idea, a one-stop post showing the multiple downsides to disposables vapes and recommendations for alternative, more sustainable, devices. Not just a pretty face @MHL ;)

I’ve made my thoughts and position on disposables very clear and still do, away from here, on an almost daily basis, particularly to the hundreds upon hundreds of companies that try and get me to stock them (Over my dead body). I’m not going to go over old ground again there.

No new user should ever feel attacked though, that’s not really on. We are all capable of giving advice without belittling anyone, one of the things that drew me to POTV back in the day and I still see that kindness and decency from a lot of people on here everyday.

I'm just going to quickly chip in and say I think this is a sensible approach. As it stands disposables are freely available, and surely its better for a newbie to come to us for advice than... well, than anyone else tbh. The two things that were drummed into me when I joined were battery safety and ohms law, with kindness and encourgement, but drummed in nonetheless. I don't see why this approach wouldn't work in this case as well.

As for advertising, to be brutally honest I don't really care. There are hundreds of things I disapprove of getting advertised every day, best I can do educate away from them, not have them as some forbidden fruit. IMO its more important the revenue generated goes towards a site like this.

Regarding advertising the forum needs revenue.... Vic was on his FB the other week saying words to the effect that he has probably made a mistake in refusing to review disposables, as the manufactures seem to be moving more towards pods again, but not sending any his way, or much else cos he told them to shove em (disposables).
And now he needs the revenue from the manufacturers..... not saying the same thing would happen here, but you don't want to piss them off too much.

It doesn't strike me there is much to review about a disposable other than what are the flavours like which is subjective and how many puffs does it give. Thereafter all you do is vape it until the juice runs out and throw it away. It must be like Groundhog Day.

Am happy to respect the current forum position on disposables. Although they are not for me, I understand their place.

I was going to do a long-winded reply but

why not ask forum members in a vote what they think?

The final decision lies with The Owner so no need for rehashing talk of Poles or Votes. IF he decides that he feels that would be useful then we’ll abide by his decision.
