What's new

Genuine Sony VTC5?

Plus one for torchey. Had lgs and 25r torchy rewraps off of him. Bang on, the rewraps are abit tight in a mech tube but do 'go' just. Also norbert 'ecolux' is another sure thing on ebay. Batteries have been faultless off of him. Samsung 30qs, vtc4s, vtc5s. Bang on if you want sonys hes the best bet.

Aside from questions about authenticity, aren't the vtc5's better for people who want to build lower due to the higher amp rating? I thought 25r's were only 'officially' rated at 20a whereas the vtc5 is a 30a battery.

I did generalise a bit, but according to Torchy, HE4s are 30amp, as are his unnamed Samsung re-wraps.

Mech users will want the maximum they can get, but a dual 18650 mech with 20amp batteries can comfortably deliver 100+ watts, while the RX200 can deliver 200, so for most of us 25r's are more than sufficient.

Amps aren't everything though.

You have to remember you also need the voltage, under load VTCs sag so much vs 25Rs

25Rs may be lower official amps but they deliver the voltage far better.

If someone said to me do you want 10 Sonys for free or 10 Samsungs id go Samsungs.

I have both. Ok my VTCs are now old and certainly only used in torchs now, but when they were relatively new I found the 25R far better

@onion or indeed anyone else, are the VTC5s wortht he premium over say the Samsung 25r, and if so, why?

Bear in mind in vaping at .3ohm and below on either a dual battery Hexohm or an evic vtc mini

According to others no. Apparently they're quite saggy for low resistance builds.

I use 25r's in my hex at 0.3 and nothing has exploded yet but I don't tend to run at 6v which is the only time the batteries would be near their max. In any event id be confident that nothing untoward would happen, I believe Torchy has tested these batteries to a higher amp draw without any serious consequences.

For balance... All the other batteries I have are vtc5's from @myepack. I use them in another series box which is pretty much the same as a hex (only difference is a raptor chip), a mech, a series mech, a parallel mech and a d2. They seem fine to me.

Having said that, it could be that I've not noticed whether they're better or worse because I lack experience or don't run my drippers and tanks at resistances which would make these weaknesses apparent.

I guess the question is, with so much uncertainty surrounding the legitimacy of these batteries is it worth scouting round for the cheapest deal and risking fakes when you could pay approximately the same or slightly more from trusted vendors? Or, skirt the problem all together and get the current 'go to'?

At 0.3, 20a batteries will always be ok. At 0.2 on a mech, maybe not so much... (Edit) unless it's a parallel.
