So I'm back with more problems :( 28 kanthal wire twisted 5 times around the screwdriver it came with (no access to drillbits), 1.8 ohm since I can't really go too low on an mvp and like hell am I putting it on my nemesis when I keep setting them on fire.
The flavour is fine, no burning taste or dry hit but the vapour is abysmal even with as much air flow as possible.
Anybody able to help? Without mocking my appalling coil that is...

Is that Silica in a Kraken or similar?

I have never really liked the idea of tanks with the coil on the top, requiring a really long silica wick.....my best advice to you would be for you to get yourself a bottom coil tank - you will find that with a much smaller cotton wick (sometimes I like silica too but I prefer cotton) the flavour will be MUCH better....

Too much gap between the coil and wick, it's hardly touching anywhere on the coil

I am rubbish ad diagnosing wick problems from photos. My eyes are rubbish.
As said earlier could be coil too loose so not enough contact.Parts of the coil glowing (hot spots) could be diagnostic of this.
to my rubbish eyes the wick looks dry which would indicate the opposite problem of juice flow being throtled because it is too tight.
Once you have that sorted you could drop your resistance a bit.Perhaps more watts.
Genisis tank is a strange choice for a beginner and silica in one is not the usually done thing but you should be able to get a good vape from it.
A kraken (if that is what it is) is meant for, and good with steel mesh build but it takes time to get right and I would master simpler builds first.
Watch loads of youtube vids on coil building you will get it.
good luck.

Thanks for all your help chaps. I've made a new, much better coil and I'm using it as a dripper until I get the hang of it. This one is working a lot better but still not much vapour, I can't bloody figure this out! No hotspots, wick is saturated and loose/thick enough... Air hole is maximum possible directly in front of coil too

I copied this guys coil almost perfectly... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1hpzEdLiHI

i have found that the subtank mini with the rba is an excellent tank to get into building. i only have experience woth gennys and that is from the good ol days woth provari 1. and that sucked with my mesh build. only recently started buildong again with cotton on RDAs and RTAs and loving it. keep trying you will get there:)

maher when using silica I'd suggest wrapping the coil directly around the wick until you have a way to wrap a coil that's slightly smaller diameter than the silica so it has a snug fit.
