What's new

I gots me a baby octopus! eek!

OK, I've just redone the baby octopus, doubled the wire up (.16 nichrome) with ekowool 1mm wick (3 strands) and it is popping and fizzing like mad. It tastes absolutely foul. Nearly choked on the thick vapour that tasted like unburnt juice. Minging.
What am I doing wrong?

Cotton wool is the way ahead...... because you can wrap the coil around something solid like a cocktail stick, it's much easier to get well spaced/even coils.

This is a mini octopus. All that's left to do is stick a couple of twisted cotton wool stands in and it's good to go.

Oh, you've got double coils! Do you have one coil attached to one post or do you attach both coils to both posts?

The mini octpus is not really designed for dual coils so both coils go to both posts. It didn't really do that much to enhance the performance over a single coil, I was just messing about really. It was a real bugger getting both the coils to sit well in such a tiny space.

I just posted the pic to show my preference for making the coil around something first (a cocktail stick)and then inserting the wick rather than trying to wrap a coil around the floppy wick. I'm a big believer in cotton wool as a wicking material. It's just much easier to get coils set up IMHO

That would be both posts as this only has two 1+ 1- . there are drippers for two coils that have 1+ 2 - posts but bare in mind when you use two coils it halves the ohms so you need more wraps to even it out

Thing is it sounds like you have it right if your getting thick vapor, so you might be getting low ohms leading to hotter vape than you have been used to so far with your other attys you've been using so try one or two more wraps with your wire and will not burn so hard and fast if that makes sense

Ok, so more coils and cotton wool wick...right, got it. Eesh. If it doesn't work this time then maybe the baby octopus isn't for me. It is such a small area to work with and so fiddly :/

Stick at it, you'll get there in the end.

I have clumsy 'fat fingers' and I can manage it. It's all a question of finding a technique that works for you.

On the subject of cotton wicks. ... you need much less wick than you think you do at first. It really swells up when you get it wet. Don't try and burn it whilst it's dry. It doesn't like it!

Ok, so I just got some wire that @whit sent me. It's .2 so I won't be using my .16 this time. So, how many coils will I need now?

Thanks @whit :)

Keep at it Midnight,
I had the same sort of problems with my first dripper (igo-w). After throwing it up the wall a few times, bad taste, not working, losing the screws etc etc, it now vapes like a trooper.
