And America needs it desperately. Their cases are exploding. Obesity plays a big role in case severity and America as a whole is obese. With Trump there for another 2+ months and half the country refusing masks they need a vaccine and they need it quickly.

I thought they'd gone for 50 million but either way it's ridiculous.

aye but the point is it’s not just americans, it will be administered to people here. as @Mitz says, it’s common with a number of vaccines. not really a big deal.

We bought in advance before we knew if it worked because the money funded development. That's WHY we'll be getting the vaccine early and at the price we're paying. If we'd waited until it was a proven vaccine mid pandemic we'd be in the queue with all the other countries who didn't invest early and paying a lot more when we eventually managed to get some far behind several other countries. It was a gamble and it paid off. Hedging your bets is smart.

i understand that some people might be a bit freaked out about the idea of this vaccine. i’ve never had a vaccine since i was a child, and don’t much like the idea of it either. but in the current situation the only other option seems to be for everybody to stay in the house or cut about with masks on for the next 20 years and everything remain shut, all the while morbidly watching death numbers on the telly every night. are there folk who really think that would be a better way to go?

i’ve never had a vaccine since i was a child, and don’t much like the idea of it either.

BCG was the last jab I had (12 yrs old?) whilst at school. Maybe yours too by the sound of it.
