What's new

Is it time to draw any conclusions yet?

Thatcher was neither principled (Al-Yamamah) nor compassionate (no example needed). But in many ways she was straight up. But Blair is literally a wolf in sheep's clothing, even nowadays.

But back to the article... interesting to compare UK to Spain, France and Italy.
Our excess deaths are shocking. Even worse than Italy. Sobering. Shame nobody in power cares.

BBC is definitely the wrong flavour profile for me, ditched them as my main news source many, many moons ago.

All these comparisons are a complete and utter waste of time, it's just tennis politics.

Apples are not oranges, and throwaway devices are not twin coil builds. You can only really compare like with like.

If every country counted and collated covid-19 deaths in the same way, then country to country comparisons might be relevant. But then there's a whole host of other variables;

Population density
Hub airports
Date of lockdown
Capacity of each country's health service
...and on, and on, and on...

You might as well compare how many tries Exeter Chiefs scored, to the number of runs Yorkshire County Cricket scored.

Shame really that the government didnt implement a much stronger lockdown like some of the far east countries did but then there would of been an uproar of the British civil rights.
Seems to me what ever is done, half the population complain anyway.
Previous posts indicate a claim culture on the government and I understand people need someone to blame cause it's never anyones fault other than the government BUT, in my opinion it's the fault of the British people because from what I see happening outside with the blatant disregard for the guidelines is a total embarrassment and totally unacceptable.
I stopped watching the news on Covid a few weeks ago now for this reason, coupled with the media's utter crap reporting. I expected more from the BBC.
Such a shame that the british public seem unable to understand the severity of this pandemic.

The figures were adjusted. Thats why they are so shocking. Italy's Heath system is terrible. Yet we lag behind them.
Trying to tell ourselves it must be something else, not rank incompetence, isn't a realistic option.

that is as close as you can get to comparing Apples with Apples. And we do terribly.

I don't think it's that they don't care.
I believe it's that if they waiver slightly they'll be shafted for the mess they've caused so they're pishing forward with a poker face as if everything has gone tickety boo.
Same with Dominic Cummings.

I had to go in to town yesterday to pick my daughter up from work (she's just gone back to work in a shop and I didn't want her having to get the bus) in the shop they've had to do all manner of stuff to be able to open.. while I was waiting I didn't see a single person walk past with a mask of any description, most people are taking no personal responsibility at all, they just want other people to deal with it, shops, government, whatever as long as they don't have to do anything, even something as simple as covering your gob.

I was in Tesco's this morning. They are removing the one way arrows on the floor. Probably because no one took any notice of them. My wife and me were the only ones, apart from 4 others, out of a packed supermarket that were wearing face masks. People were not keeping their distance.
What is a matter with people? Do they not understand simple instructions?

Hey it wouldn't be England if 50% of the Country wasn't complaining...
