Was vaping for years no problem with the voltage set to 4.7, in the past whenever I got burnt hits it was just time to change the coil, then out of no where for no reason started getting constantly burnt hits and it's been like that for months, changed the coil 3 times while always priming it leaving it for 5 minutes still burnt, changed the tank twice, still burnt, upgraded to a high capacity tank, still burnt, thought it could be vapours tongue switched flavours, still burnt.

Haven't had a decent vape in ages, can't find what the hell is causing it, I had the girl in the vape shop try mine to make sure I wasn't imagining it, she agreed it was giving burnt hits.

Anyone else experience this?, I'm using an eleaf istick 39w, don't know the the name of the tank but it's designed for high voltage use.

What vg/pg ratio is the juice your using?
Youre also going to have to tell us what tank it is including what ohm coil is in it just in case its not able to cope with the juice your using.
Hi and welcome btw.

Did the vape shop not offer you a decent alternative to try? Surely they gave you advice?

Hi and welcome to the planet.
using voltage you are talking a foreign language to most of us as we mainly go by wattage.
checking my istick40TC 4.7v is 38.1watt
if your using one of the smaller isticks like 40/50 you dont have enough headroom
even a lot of starter kits are now rated 220watt

as said above we really need to know the tank and which ohm coil it has in it to advise. if the tank came with the mod then im guessing 70vg would be the max to use.
knowing the make and juice ratio also we will be able to tell you straight away what the problem could be.

Have you tried a different coil or coils from a different source? Sometimes you need to go through a process of elimination to figure out what's wrong.

I agree with the above post. Your vape shop should have been more helpful but then again, I've been in this position and they were only too happy to keep selling me garbage coils and juice that my device couldn't handle . Vapours tongue as far as I'm aware would not give you a burnt taste right?

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome, I was using an iclear thank for ages with no problems, like a rehab I never fully checked my current coil / tank, it's an aspire K3 tank, coil is aspire 3.3 - 4.2v, 7 - 11v, it never dawned on me the information is written on the coil, I have my battery set to 4.7 the coils only good up to 4.2?, thought the shop would have worked that out for me, guess I just need a coil that goes up to 4.7.
I have no idea what vg / pg the juice is it's not written on the label.

Try the same coils but start off at a lower voltage @Ed234 - if you start off lower and the gradually push the voltage up you will find the sweet spot for that coil. If you start off high then you will immediately burn the cotton and once the cotton is burnt then the coil will be buggered and it will always taste burnt!

Have a look at this:

What you need to know really is the resistance of the coils you are using. Looks like the K3 uses the nautilus coils, these are available in 1.8, 1.6 and 0.7Ω. From the chart above, if you have the 1.8 or 1.6 coils then you are pushing too much power through them. Tp get a decent vape at 4.7V you would need to be using a coil with a 2Ω plus resistance.

What's the symbol that looks like an O?, mine is a 1.6, if the coil says 3.3 - 4.2 am I not good to go at 4.2 or do I have to gradually build up to that?

OK I think it would be a good idea to get Volts out of your thought process and start thinking in Watts. The O will be ohms and a 1.6 ohm coil will need to be run around 10-15 watts. You can of course go higher but I really think you're png way too high and hence the burned taste. Switch your mod to wattage mode

The Ω is the symbol for resistance and the measurement is Ohms. So the coil you have is 1.6 ohms in resistance. The lower the resistance the more power you need to put through it to get it to heat up. Have you heard of sub ohm vaping? This is where you have a coil below 1Ω - hence sub (below) ohm (Ω). With sub ohm vaping you need more power to get the wire (like an element in a traditional light bulb) to light up and vapourise your juice. If you put too much power through it then it will get too hot and burn the cotton.

Personally I would build up to the 4.2V, you might find that you get a vape that you enjoy just a bit below the manufacturer's suggested limit for the coil. Being a bit under means that when you want to push it a bit (after a drink or two or if the family are getting on your nerves) then you can crank it up a bit without worrying about scorching the coil.

Bear in mind the PG/VG ratio that someone mentioned earlier in the thread too. The coils that you are using have pretty small juice holes on them. VG is very thick and it does not get through these holes quick enough to keep the cotton soaked when you are vaping so this can cause the cotton to burn as well. Try and get 50PG / 50VG juice if possible, I have used 70VG / 30PG juice with that sort of coil before but if you can use higher PG mixes then do it as you will get a better vape from that juice with that coil :)
