What's new

Just not getting it...

Wow, my first post although i've been lurking for a while :) I was in the exact same position as you, smoked GV with menthol filters and wanted a juice that replicated the taste. What i have found out:

1) It won't happen, there's no way that you can replicate the burning taste combined with the lets be honest, quite strong menthol taste of the filters *side note* did you know that it was the paper around the filters that gave the menthol flavour not the filter? Don't believe me - check out a non menthol filter, no paper :)

2) Most of the juices that i tried just didn't cut it in the fact that they weren't strong enough. Even juice labelled "extreme", "super" etc didn't do it.

3) People have a different opinion of what is "strong menthol".

What i did:

1) Went searching for the strongest menthol liquid that i could find that was already pre-mixed, forums on the net helped me with this a lot.

2) Bought some of this: http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/menthol.htm

3) Filled up and blew the top of my head off. It was too much on my own but i mixed it with other normal menthol juices to give the extra kick that they didn't have.

All this was using a liberty flights starter kit.

Where i am 5 months later:

1) Bought a Innokin VTR and IGO-W, man the drippers make the world of difference to flavour of liquids, that "meh" flavour really does taste like it should now.

2) Started making my own menthol liquid - it's not quite good enough on it's own but hey it's not costing me £££.

If i hadn't discovered that liquid i think that i would be back on the cigs by now. TBH as time's gone on and my taste has come back i'm moving away from the menthols and more onto bakery flavours.

Aloha man, when you say harsh is it the actual vapor (like the nicotine / PG) or is it the taste (cause menthol tabs usually seemed pretty weak on the menthol side to me) but it can sometimes be the device burning hot (e.g. getting the right replacement coils can make a difference, i got a tank with 2.2ohm coils but accidentally bought 1.8ohm coils and got a shock). I used to smoke rollies myself but mixed 25g GV with 12.5g Amberleaf. Vape wise i find that a 50/50 mix (plenty vendors on the discounts page do this) has a much better flavour, on the flavour front i have found that menthol is simply too weak a flavour (its there but not really strong), double menthol not much different but a menthol+peppermint mix called 'extreme ice' (mount baker vapor brand from 'cloud house vapor' (on discounts page) in a sample pack) blew my head off, thought i'd inhaled a tub of vics on my first draw. Good luck with your search and when it comes down to the flavour not being quite right, think why you tried in the first place and take a chance on different flavours, you may find something else that works for you.

1.8ohm is usually a pretty good resistance for ego type batts. Vape can be a bit feeble once you get to around 2.4

Thanks for all the advice guys... I've got an ego starter kit which I've been using... I haven't replaced any parts in it since I bought it... When I've bought a new liquid I've just emptied the old liquid from the tank and refilled it with new liquid... Should I be replacing the tank?... Should I just buy a new starter kit?... I've noticed that most of the liquids I've got are a 70pg 30vg mix... And a 24mg nicotine... I've always gone for a higher nicotine level as I am quite a heavy smoker... Once again, thanks for the advice...

24mg is very strong in my opinion, my first juice I bought was tobacco flavour at 24mg and 70/30 and boy was it strong and not for me. I would say that menthol will taint any other juices you put in it, I now use 12-15mg 60/40 or 50/50 and sometimes lower mg which are a lot smoother but still give a throat hit. I quickly moved from basic clearomizers to protank 2 and now use a fogger and kayfun lite clone with a mech and the difference when it's all set up is night and day

OK so you don't need to buy a whole new starter kit. A better setup will give you a better vape for sure, but if you're still not sure about it all yet I'd hold off until you can find a vape you can work with first.

I would buy a new tank though. I'd suggest getting a couple of EVOD clearomisers, they're cheap and will fit nicely onto your eGo battery and most importantly you can change the heads on them. I'd get either 1.8ohm or 2.0 ohm resistance ones. When you want to change the flavours in a tank you just empty out any remaining liquid, give the whole thing a rinse in some running water and dry it off with paper towel. Usually you also fire the tank a few times without anything in it to dry out the wicks too.

How good the coil still is on the tank you've got is hard to say, if you've used it a lot then it won't be great now and could probably use replacing. If you've not used it much then it might still be fine. If you don't clean the tank between e-liquids you can get a lot of flavour seep, where the previous flavour taints the next one, especially using menthol liquids, and that might be the source of some of the harshness.

Try a new tank, maybe pickup a different liquid that's around 50/50 rather than 70/30 and see how that works out for you. Try as well using an 18mg liquid for the next one. Higher VG ratio and slightly lower nicotine will also lower the throat hit, and you can always go back up to 24mg if you find you want more oomph next time.

Thank you so much for the advice... Sorry to sound dumb but you mentioned the coil?... I have no idea what this is?... Is this something I can replace as well?...

In every tank there is a heating element that heats up the e-liquid and turns it into vapour, this is typically a coil of wire that's wrapped around a silica wick. This is called a 'head' or a 'coil' typically.

On cheaper tanks you can't change the heads when they get worn out. On the better clearomisers you can. A replacement head usually costs between £1 to £2 and is much cheaper than replacing the whole tank.

You can also rebuild your own coils which makes replacing them lots cheaper, but one step at a time :)

When i started vaping i went from 20 a day ciggerettes to 12mg nicotine anything higher and i got a sore throat, that seems to still be the case to this day if i get sent out juice to review at 18mg then i just cant handle it and end up with a huge sore throat for a week, try and lower the nic to 18mg with just 1 10ml bottle and see how you go buddy, goodluck!

Thanks guys... I think I'll get some new tanks, some 50/50 juice at 12mg and see how I go!!...
