Hello peeps.

I'm in the UK and want to try DIY mixing. Although I've found tons of good advice for recipes and flavour concentrates the one thing I haven't found so far is which VG and PG bases are the best brands to buy and where to get them in the UK.

I thounght about mixing my own liquid about 4 years ago when Liberty Flights were seen as the big name in DIY mixing but when I got their VG base it smelt and tasted so awful I gave up but now as things have moved on and improved so much I thought I'd try again. My recipes will be a 70/30 VG/PG mix and as the flavours are all PG I need to use a high proportion of VG base to get the mix right but don't want another bad experience with bad tasting VG base spoiling a good recipe.

We do get a lot of US brands on sale in the UK so there's a good chance I can find any good brands from your side of the pond.

Your ordering from chefs for your concentrate so grab a bottle of VG and PG from them while your there [emoji4]

Thanks mattyk2010.

The Chefs base does look fine at 99.8% purity but as I'm new to mixing and have never actually tried it I thought I'd see if any more experienced DIYers have any better advice. I'm not ordering for a couple of days anyway because I've ordered a new flavour called Lava Flow by Naked to try the original first before I attempt the clone version I found on e-liquid-recipes.com. I'm also vaping Mint Choc Chip Mikshake from Rejuiced so am going to try a clone recipe for that at the same time.

Drip hacks
Vapable
Darkstar vapour

All sell good quality products as well as chefs but as your ordering from chefs anyway it might be cheaper to order your VG and PG from them as you should hit free delivery and not tried the rejuiced stuff but lava flow is one of my favourite flavours of all time so your in for a treat with the bottle you ordered but I think your gonna be let down on the DIY side as I've not found a recipe yet that comes close to the original

fill your boots 20 litres for £55....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VG-I-PG-...9175:m:mko1ahumA91JvZHZkO2nx3w&frcectupt=true

PG is a bit more expensive it seems
you can get 5 litres of VG for a tenner but shipping is extra unless you blow £40

https://www.darkstar.co.uk/vegetable-glycerine

PG is £14:50 for 5 litres (was more than that a while back & way over priced)

https://www.darkstar.co.uk/propylene-glycol

could buy 3 x VG & 1 PG for £44:50 shipped free for 20 litres
mixed all in gives ya a base of 75% VG 25% PG

(or 2 x VG & 2 x PG will give you scope for 50/50 @ £49 for 20 litres)

or there about, or the Lucemill option premixed at 70/30 or 60/40

as always buying in bulk is where biggest savings are to be made
get a m8 or two/three to go in with ya & buy the base mix in bulk
but the base mix is the cheapest part of DIY-ing so no real biggy
(the flavours is what really cost the most, then nicotine & base is FA)

Hi there,I make all of my own juice and use a few different vendors for my supplies but I always get my VG/PG from Vapable,It’s good quality, reasonably priced and you get free delivery on all orders over £10 quid. Rainbow Vapes is also another great vendor that sell good quality products and offer free delivery over a tenner but as already said if you are going to Chefs you may as well get it all from them and then get their free delivery which is over £30. Don’t forget the discount codes available on the POTV website and the respective FB groups. To save yourself a few bob many vendors rebottle Flavour Art concentrates which are one of the more expensive brands, these are exactly the same flavours only much cheaper, keep your eye out for those on the websites,Vapable calls theirs Arte Italiano,Rainbow Vapes has their version as do Chefs but I can’t remember what they are called off hand. If you need any advice please don’t hesitate to ask and best of luck on your mixing journey.

Thanks guys, some very helpful tips there. I like the Vapable suggestion if you've used them for years and know the quality and more importantly the taste of their base is OK. I'm not a heavy enough vaper to make it worth buying large quantities as the shelf life is only 6 to 12 months and I wouldn't use all that. Also sticking to 500ml bottles I think would be easier to decant from.

So far I'd only found Vape Hut and Chefs Kitchen for concentrates and Chefs looked better and cheaper, plus they had all the branded flavours mentioned in the recipes I found. If you all think their VG base should be OK I'll probably try theirs first and I can always go to Vapable if I don't like the Chefs one.

As for getting close the the original Lava flow it seems to me that the nice thing with DIY is that you can keep tinkering until you can find the perfect taste to suit your own individual pallette and possibly end up with something even better than the original. Anyway it'll be fun trying.

Cheers guys.

Think the life is longer than that & I mtl about 2 litres a year for starters
plus freeze nicotine & everything is in a dark cool cupboard etc....

so depending how much you consume you should be good for a litre or two I reckon at least

I got a few litres of base, with a weak bit of 1 flavour & nic mixed already,
that I add a bit more to it to make up around 500ml & decant into 10ml bottles every 3 months

Important bit is just to make a small initial batch - no more than 100ml tops, maybe 30~50ml first
of a half decent All Day Vape you can stomach, then add a dash of this n that to small 10ml bottles

then when you got something you love you can decide if to mix up a slightly larger batch perhaps
but still got plenty of separate VG, PG & nic in case I can no long stand the shit anymore

But I'm not a fussy wine tasting vaper, something half decent, with a modest 8~9% flavour does me
(miles better than the stinky fags)
Think some of the flavours are highly concentrated though, even @ 9%
(if your wee starts to smell - maybe ease up on the flavouring percentage perhaps)

have fun

I just like the idea of 500ml bottles of base liquid rather than the big 5L containers simply because I think it'll be far easier to decant from. As you say, I'm going to mix up 10ml at a time to begin with and then make up 120ml bottles using a couple of Nic Shots.

Most of the Nic Shots seem to be either 100% VG or a mixed base but I'd prefer 100% PG if I can find some at a reasonable price.

Don't like the idea of freezing Nic Shots. I've got a garden shed I can keep them cool and dry in and I'm only going to buy 10 bottles at a time because they'll last me a few months so its not worth buying too many at a time.
