What's new

Macron is the joker now as Europe blunders into fateful third wave of the pandemic

At the end of the day though surely the percentage of dead people is more important.

Not really.... you can't bring people back from the dead can you? They are gone and it's terrible.... but what is important now is getting people vaccinated, getting the infection, hospitalization and death rates down and getting out of lock down.

I've lost someone and nothing is going to bring them back, I just don't want more people to join them .......... even if they are French. ;)

I get you.
The French have had more deaths per million than the UK for about the last four days.
The much greater death rate in the UK every day from mid Dec till then is In the past.
We are doing the vaccines better.
So UK for the win.

I dunno if I would go that far.... :D

Lets see what happens over the next couple of months and keep our fingers crossed. .. it takes a few weeks for the vaccine to work, so they really need to get on top of it quick imo.

With these threads that @Mitz likes posting to show how bad Eu countries are handling covid I always go here https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus#our-data-sources Put the Uk and the crappy Eu countries on the Data Explorer then compare the death rates per million people to see just how bad they are handling things compared to us..

The answer is always the same, They are not as crap as us. France is not a huge amount less crap than us and the Germans are way less crap than us.

Actually, Mitz likes posting these threads to show how awful the vaccine rollout and especially vaccine uptake is in some European countries and how it is at least partially because the EU along with some European leaders decided to play politics over the vaccines. Our government has made many mistakes. More than I can count. They've also tried walking a very fine line between economy and health. It's cost lives. What they haven't done is pander to anti-vaxers or damage the credibility of life saving vaccines in an already vaccine skeptical population simply to score political points or because another country is doing better at vaccinating their population.

I'd like nothing more than to post articles that say EU vaccine uptake is near 100% and the rollout is roaring on across Europe like a bullet train. At the end of the day we ALL need vaccinating and the sooner the better. Unfortunately, some European / EU leaders have made damn sure that won't be happening any time soon.

I reckon I'll die of old age before I get the vaccine, the way it's being handled over here [emoji53]

Apparently they've just found the person that was missing with the Brazil variant. So that's a relief.

... talking of Brazil, did you see this @Mitz

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/worl...stop-whining-as-deaths-top-260000/ar-BB1ehsWE

The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has triggered a wave of revulsion by telling citizens to stop “whining” about a coronavirus outbreak that has killed more than 260,000 people.

“Stop all this fussing and whining. How long are you going to keep on crying?”

With vaccination stuck in first gear, infections surging, intensive care units reaching capacity and close to 2,000 lives being lost each day, the answer looks certain to be quite some time. A report in the Valor Econômico newspaper on Friday claimed senior health ministry officials believed the daily death toll was likely to “explode” to more than 3,000 in the coming weeks.

...... crazy.
