What's new

In talking down AZ's success, the EU has sacrificed lives for the integrity of the European Project

I think it's best to accept some folks won't take the vaccine, for whatever reason, maybe in time they will , but a 100% uptake isn't going to happen, nae point getting yer knickers in a twist about it..... protect yourself as you see fit, respect the choices others have made.
And before anyone says ah but their choice impacts on me......... if you voted Tory that impacts on me :)

I might be talking out my arse but i thought you could still spread the virus even when vaccinated ?

if i understand it right, they don’t know about this yet because this takes longer for them to evidence than the more simple fact of whether it reduces serious complications and death. but the expectation is that it will also reduce transmission.

Its not your choice is it unless you live in complete isolation on island with no contact with anyone

If I recall you work with vulnerable adults what about there rights they also have a right to have safe care you won’t know if you have the virus the vaccine is to stop the spread to stop the transmission to break the death I haven’t seen any other ideas how to overcome this situation?
The Lad I work with has been vaccinated, his Dad has been Vaccinated, but his Mum doesn't want it, and said it is my choice, if I want it or don't want it, I don't see how I am putting anyone vulnerable at risk if they've been vaccinated, and there is still Freedom of choice regarding what I put in my body, for the meantime anyway !!!

The more who don't get jabbed accelerate the spread and increase probability of variants cropping up. Choosing not to have one directly impacts the vulnerable.

I get where you're coming from I think, but herd immunity is a thing. Smallpox and rinderpest have been eradicated due to vaccines. And it might not take THAT many unvaccinated people to allow a virus to continue spreading.

Non-vaccination increases the risk for everyone, especially the old, vulnerable, etc. And it increases the capacity of the breeding ground for variants and mutations.

It is your body and your choice. But refusing it is a poor and unkind choice in my opinion.

But refusing it is a poor and unkind choice in my opinion.

There will be lots of that, loads of younger people won't have the jab, and quite a few, from the BAME groups, won't have it either. Look what's happening abroad, no one in Germany wants the Oxford, the French arent keen on any the vaccines. My Sister had covid and never knew, until she had the antibody test - at work. There is a case and a place for herd immunity, backed up by the majority having the vaccine, I'm having it btw. It's going to be alright, and I'm naturally, or usually, a pessimist.

I find it an ethically thorny subject. Initially I'd tend to agree if you don't want it, you shouldn't be forced to have it. Because yes, it is your body.

But when you look at the way viruses spread and mutate, you see that the impact of your choice on other people is significant.

However, you could apply a similar logic to other things... e.g. car use. Increased risk of death (or injury) as much to others as yourself, environmental damage / illness from polution, all of which places a significant burden on the health service.

What about seatbelts and crash helmets? No direct risk to others, but a legal requirement.

Simples.....

Clearly everybody has a choice. Some people may feel others make the wrong choice but it doesn't change the fact that it's an individual choice. Doesn't mean the choices we make can't have consequences for others - sometimes deadly. But that's life; we make our choices and we live with the consequences.

I've never agreed with mandatory helmets. It would be Ok if it stopped there but it doesn't, it's 'approved' helmets, 'approved' visors and over the years it's been the continual threat of 'EU approved' clothing, jackets, boots, gloves etc. If I want to pop to the shop or go for a little cruise around in the summer without being fully kitted up that's a risk I'll choose to take.
