The Vapers in Power crowdfunding campaign for the Welsh Assembly Election Campaign is entering its final days. The Public Health (Wales) Bill was defeated last week but as you probably know this was as a result of a silly remark and not because the majority of the Senedd agreed that the vaping restrictions were ridiculous (the right thing for the wrong reasons!) It seems safe to assume that Mark Drakeford will be back to give it another go.

The voluntary ban on vaping and smoking at Little Haven beach illustrates how strong a hold this illogical opposition to vaping has in Wales. Pembrokeshire County Council’s response to our open letter could have been written by Drakeford – or even by Stanton Glantz himself. This voluntary ban is especially scary as it sets a precedent and has been brought in without any consultation.

The domino effect is a real threat here: if vaping is successfully banned in one place it will only be matter of time before such bans are normal.

This needs to be nipped in the bud. NOW!.

Lee Woolls is our Candidate for Cardiff West, standing directly against Mark Drakeford, the Welsh Labour Government’s Health Minister, who was behind the recently defeated vaping ban.

Lee was introduced to vaping in 2010. He and his wife used to smoke 100 cigarettes a day between them and went down to none overnight, using the second generation ego style equipment. Lee has since upgraded to the more effective third generation products, but still uses high mg liquid and a fairly high res coil.

Lee believes that the Welsh Government’s stance is inexcusable given the solid science presented by leading charities, government bodies and public health campaigners.

Lee is standing as a candidate to ensure that information regarding vaping is factual and science-based and reaches both the public and the politicians. He believes vaping has a real prospect of reducing smoking prevalence and improving the health of the population of Wales.

“I want the people of Wales to have access to the independent, unbiased, peer reviewed science that has demonstrated, time and time again, how safe vaping is compared to smoking and that there is zero risk to bystanders. The people of Wales need to see that neither the interests of democracy nor public health are served by effectively banning vaping.”

Bernice Evans is our regional candidate for the South Wales Central.

Bernice started vaping sometime in 2011 and stopped smoking immediately. Finding the vaping community on social media gave Bernice the opportunity to learn about other people’s vaping journeys and guided hers.

When Bernice realised the potentially devastating impact of the Tobacco Products Directive she was determined to ensure that vapers voices could be heard. She knew from personal experience that the media reports which slammed vaping were false.

Bernice is determined to use her voice, time and money as weapons in the war against vaping, a war which is being fought on behalf of the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries and to protect government coffers.

“Every time a smoker sees bad publicity about vaping the chances of them trying it is diminished. I want every smoker to have the chance to try vaping and get the information, advice and guidance to ensure they don’t have to go it alone.“

If you are going to Vape Jam come and find us at stand P65. We’ll be sharing the Advocacy Stand with the New Nicotine Alliance. Bernice will be there too.
