Your right, it can make it confusing as a lot of folk get confused about 18mg and 1.8%.I'll own up and say I'm very crap at maths.
It's not that the maths is difficult though, it very very simple and obvious when you see the numbers on their own .. I think the fact that it's e-liquid, mls and mg's that confuses folk.
people have asked in the past if mixing 2x10ml of 6mg will give you 12mg e-liquid.
A few years ago when I first started mixing I spent quite a while trying to work out flavour percentages, pgvg ratios and nic quantities which is why I designed an e liquid calculator.
That led to doing a shortfill and nic shot calculator then a coil wrap calculator and a couple of others.
Now I dont have to worry about using long drawn out calculations and getting it wrong lol, I just use my calculators.
