My DIY liquids have a strong synthetic/chemical taste

Hi everyone. I've been trying to make my own liquids since last year, but haven't quite been able to produce anything that's minimally enjoyable. The main issue is, all the DIY liquids i've every tried to make taste terrible.

I've tried 3 different base brands. VapVip, Inawera and just recently NicBase.
In early stages i would purchase all my aromas from Capella and other brands, and try some online recipes.
Then i decided to try concentrates.

So far, i haven't been able to produce anything that's enjoyable.

Mostly i get a strange soapy/synthetic/chemical like taste, and never got anywhere close to what the flavour description should be.

Tried in the past (814 nomine, 814 clovis, highen by R: snap pear, absolum, djeby). I've decided that my bases weren't good so i gave up on it for a while.

Yesterday i got a fresh batch of 50/50 PGVG NicBase and two concentrates from K-BOOM (boomilk and calimero). mixed 5% of juice, added 9mg/10ml to a 30ml mixture (should be at 3mg nicotine). They taste as always, strange... nowhere near the advertised flavour.

My question is, am i doing something wrong? Or are my tastebuds completely messed up?
Anyone had similar experience trying diy liquids?

(In all my makes, i tried steeping with warm water, and let them in a drawer for a couple of weeks, only the ones i did yesterday i havent steeped yet)

When looking for recipes especially on elr make sure they're rated there's a lot of shit ones about, can't comment on your base, having never used it, maybe try some one shots, and try vaping your base on its own, to see it that's ok

Sorry to hear that!
If that is a one shot you are using then the percentage is quite low. Usually one shots sit in the 15% range?
What does the manufacturer recommend?
Usually the taste you are describing is down to the wrong percentage of flavour.
Inawera for example are largely very strong concentrates and the percentage can range from 0.2% to 5% for the vast majority of their concentrates.
The same can be said of Flavour Art and Flavorah.
Cappellas concentrates are largely mid range in concentration and Flavor Apprentace and Flavor West require greater percentages for the taste to come through.
The rule of thumb is that every flavour requires its own percentage to work for you, most start at 5% flavour concentrate and either work down or work up to get your own sweet spot.
It can be a long frustrating journey with new flavours but there are some great guidelines that others recommend.
If I get a new flavour I check what the manufacturer recommends and start from there. Too weak I increase by 2% until I get to where I want it to be.
Hope this helps?

Thought the same, so i've decided to buy concentrates. Still happening the same.

I will try to vape my base alone.

The manufacturer (K-BOOM) recommends 4% to 7%. The ones i used last year, recommended drops per 10ml, which i followed strictly.

I've given up on recipes, since it's hard to get all the flavours and brands required (normally out of stock, or having to buy from different suppliers, too much of an hassle and i'm from Madeira Island). I've decided to go with concentrates (premixed flavours?) to see if i'm able to produce anything vapeable.

UPDATE!

I just rebuilt my tank (new coil and wick) and tried vaping the base alone and it is flavourless :)

So i guess it's something with the concentrate or the mixture.

What are you using to store them in? Plastic or glass?
I would recommend glass as some plastic can react with the juice.

One in a plastic bottle another in glass bottle.
The plastic bottle i purchased from a vaping store. The glass bottle was from a previous 30ml liquid. Had it washed and clean, no odors whatsoever.

Hmmmnnnn, not too sure what to suggest. I'll re read the thread a couple of times and see if anything else pops to mind.

How long do you normaly steep your diy-liquids?

Here's something i just discovered:

In my k-boom bottle, it suggest i use 4~7% for mixture.

In different stores i just found, they suggest 12-16% !?
