NEW Leather mod sheath / sleeve GIVEAWAY !!! oooohhh page 10

so....

still not happy with the stitching on the sleeve mods so while I wait for some stock to be delivered Im doing another piece

I'm asked now and again that, when I'm not working for the NHS and I am chopping, planting trees what do we use to heat water to make tea

IMG_0072.JPG

well we use one of these a tilly kettle the water is in a jacket and heats from a little fire in the base flames go up the chimney in the middle quick and easy we use flint and steel as fag lighters are unreliable just some dry twigs pop your water in and boil it etc etc

on the dvd tonight is jaws the original classic, classic film.....

I posted this in the lounge but it seems more apt to put it here

it is an old, 50 plus years old Gladstone bag the story behind it is in the post in the lounge

tobywonkanobi has asked me to make a mech mod case for his SOI Subzero Shorty I had a gander at the mod "Ouch" that's an expensive bit of kit, I am always amazed at mech mods and the money they cost basically they are a tube with a button on the bottom no electronics lcd panels nope just a tube.

on the dvd today is Alfred Hitchcock's rear window a 60,s classic

all good projects start with a crappy drawing

IMG_2130.JPG

so toby asked for tan and cream

so i cut another piece of the even shorter broom handle at @25mm thick as a form

IMG_2135.JPG

wet the leather form clamp dye

IMG_2141.JPG

now the inside must be soft as to not scratch the mod so i lined it in wine colored baize

IMG_2142.JPG

now glue with leather cement and clamp

IMG_2143.JPG

with rivets in i drilled sewed up the seams and did a whip cross stitch to secure the baize on the top

IMG_2146.JPG

so now with edges i am here with my burnishing tool spinning at 2000 rpm with gum smeared on the edge, the way it works is the friction with the gum heats and joins the leather to make a smooth clean edge aka burnished

IMG_2155.JPG

IMG_2157.JPG

first polish

IMG_2159.JPG

and the back will repolish after the leather has rested

now the wooden form is tight it will wear in time, its not too tight as in "pull the sod out will you" but it is tight leather it will wear and loosen in time its best to have a tight mod than a loose mod BOOM BOOM

in reflection im not over the moon on the whip stitch perhaps i might redo it hmmmmm

comments please

That's gorgeous. You're going to have to buy a new broom handle soon though.

Take my money already! I absolutely love it. You have a real talent for this leather work. I've always had issues carrying a mech around. In a pocket loose it seems to turn itself sideways, so,I would normally stick it my bag. To do that though I would stick it in a slim vapecase (fasttech or gearbest jobby), but it meant it was a bit of a faff to have a quick vape.

This is the answer to my problems. Great work again @vapesmarter. Oh and I'm a cheapskate, the mech was 2nd hand, a deal that was too good to turn down. [emoji12][emoji16][emoji847]

@vapesmarter, so you're doing commissions now? That looks like another top job mate, Toby will be chuffed.

I must confess I haven't used the one you made me this last week, sorry :( I've been rocking a bigger setup for my long manic shifts at work, but I'm still impressed mate, but I will be putting it through its paces again soon.

I don't mind doing commission jobs at all the test peaces are to get a design perfected then I can say the cases are made for vapers made by a vaper not some factory mass producing them.

I will make a case or 2 for next years raffle but the design of the case has to one that is correct so it's a long process

Charges wise I will charge enough to cover the costs alas like all small craft artisans I will never be rich I make them because it's the love of creation not a love of money....

Wow, just wow, great to see proper crafted products. :)
