Soz - but did I miss what actual tank you are using ???
Reason being that different tanks work/don't work too great for MTL quitters
I doubt if you are using an ultra low sub ohm coil setup but if you was - best of luck with some tanks trying MTL quitting
Whatever the coil is there should be some markings and some guidelines for watts or maybe voltage
Adjusting watts to find that sweet spot of flavour but avoiding hot tank/tips or shortening coil life if overdo it
At the risk of getting flamed and piss taking out of me.....
I started out just using el cheapo 88Vape Maidens Tobacco 16mg & then down to 11mg
and even diluted it a smidge using Boots VG Glycerin (as it is 70 VG - ok for old pen mods but not ideal for tanks)
Before anybody laughs and says that stuff is shit or whatever.....

£1 a bottle did the trick for me to quit fags
TBH, I was fine sticking with this pen & £1 88Vape for a while
The cost was say a £4 atomizer & 2~3 bottles = £6 to £7 a week tops which was a big saving to £55 or so a week on fags
The reason I moved into tanks/mods was coz it seemed a waste to bin a clearomiser every 7 to 10 days
I started to lower the nicotine from 16mg, dropped to 11mg then diluted it to say 8.5mg but vaped a bit more so tanks lasted a bit less
New coil for a pre-coil tank - £1:50
RTA tank - pennies + bit of muji
Sure you can make your own juice - as low as say 15p for a 10ml basic flavoured 7.2mg
but ffs you gotta mix this in real bulk like 10 litres or so to get near that
So it is a lot to lay out to save in the long run with say 5 or 6 years supply when you can try the odd bottle of Maidens or Rolling Leaf or something
(Actually Rolling Leaf to me tasted like rolled up leaves - I prefered the Maidens cheap & cheerful at the time to kick the habit)
Taste & subtle flavourings never really mattered to me that much - my taste buds were shot after 20+ years smoking anyway
So that stuff did me alright starting my vaping journey - might be worth grabbing a modestly price bottle of something
to at least give you some stability when messing with vape tweeks & all that
We all vape very differently but chiming in as an ex-smoker and still MTL-ing

Yeah, for vaping like you smoked (taking it down = MTL)
You probably wanted to an above Ohm 1.0 to 1.5 Ohm & say 10 to 15w coil & tank
(if you was MTL-ing, though this is NOT set in stone, merely a guideline for first time ex-smokers)
You are likely producing more vapour perhaps a bit too much to take down
(vapour wise, a low 3mg is alright in large clouds, normally higher nic 12mg and smaller clouds for MTL)
You probably want a tighter draw on an above ohm coil
Imagine buying a milkshake from McDonald's that is way too cold you can't suck any shake until it warms up
Yeah you don't want it THAT tight, but draw-able but no so airy it is like sucking water/air
Like a normal fag, a tight draw as they say but not one that sucks ya cheeks together
you get the idea & eveybody's level of draw is different, but that sort of stuff is what ex-smokers/MTL do
(of a sort)
So in theory, you produce less vapour, with a higher nic and take it down using an above Ohm (ish) coil
with a tank that you can adjust the draw to a reasonably tight draw to suit your own preference
Without puffing out plumes of cloud like Ivor the Engine
BUT - by all means work with what you got maybe but you might need to alter a few things
like e-juice, coil/settings, airflow, even another tank as not all tanks are suited for MTL
But you might just go with DTL, though seemed a bit weird to me after smoking for so long
and in theory you are trying to find a method that emulates the old fags and still get your nic fix
In the end - everybody is different, but that is something along the lines of how I vape MTL
