Not so scary after all

@AndyC1971, my first attempts! I did four heads altogether, was good fun once I got going!

The ohms were a bit all over the place though, 1.7 on one up to 2.5 on another. How can I get a bit more consistency?

Were you using the same number of coils for each head? I now use 4 wraps of .2 kanthal onto 3mm silica and always gives me around 1.7 ohms.
The length of the wire will determine the resistance, but you might just need more practise as it took me a while to get it consistent

I did 5 wraps on the one that turned out as 2.5 and four on all the others, they came out at 2, 1.8 and 1.7. Only thing I did differently on the lower ohms ones apart from the one less wrap was I annealed the wire with a lighter because the first one was a bit springy. Not sure what the wire or the wick is because AndyC1971 was a smasher and gave me some bits to have a go with.

This is exciting! I'm going to go and have a look at wick and wire now

It has given me a sense of achievement! Once I'd got my glasses out and a good light it was easier, I think one of the things that was putting me off was not being able to actually see it properly

Ahh ok, so four tighter wraps would be higher or lower than four looser wraps? I'm going to say.. lower? I think that might be exactly what I did.

Your right, it would be a little lower. Dont throttle the wick, as this will cause problems. I hit around 1.7/1.8 ohms with 4 wraps.

Go and try one, I think you will be pleasantly surprised over a stock head.
