Question About Coils

Hi, I'm fairly new to vaping. I bought the Voopoo Navi Vape while on holidays. It came with 2 coils and I bought 10mg juice and it was working perfectly for me until the second coil ran out...
I went to the local vape shop to buy a coil and they had one that fit it (no idea what brand or anything but it was 0.8ohm, I was told it was between 12-18W). I filled the tank, this time with 12mg juice and left it to sit for about 5 mins but there was a strong burning taste off it when I used it. I went back and bought a new coil (same type), and this time I put juice on the cotton in the coil and left it to sit for 15 mins just to be sure. When I went to use it there was still a burnt taste (not as bad as before but just a slight lingering one).
I'm wondering why this burning taste remains. I definitley primed the coil correctly the second time, and didn't exceed the recommended 18W. The 12mg juice I purchased was Peach&Strawberry, could it possibly be the juice being too sweet? Or maybe something to do with the quality of the coils they're selling?
Or maybe the device is faulty, I'm not sure.. I might order a coil online but am reluctant to invest if I'll get the same result.
Thanks!

Hello @seanmacu and welcome to the forum. In all honesty it could be a number of things. I normally prime my coils and let it sit for a good half an hour before vaping so the liquid can fully soak in. The other things to try after priming are giving a few dry inhales without the device on and always remember that with a new coil you should start vaping at a low wattage and then build up from there, if you got straight to the highest wattage then you are more likely to burn the coil out. Having said all that you could have been sold a duff batch!! I'd order more and try again, better that than go back to the analog cigarettes!! Good luck!

Could also be the VG content of the juice. Very high VG is a lot thicker and some coils will sturggle to wick it fast enough.

As ForestMagpie said, drop the watts right down, make sure the coil is well primed and you can then increase the watts very gradually and see how the coil handles it.

The singed coil will still taste burnt so best use a new one.

What vg/pg ratio is your juice? Do you mtl or dtl?

And welcome to the forum. :)
