I had similar problems with mine. It worked but the hotspring got..... Hot. Certainly hot enough to heat up the switch if you use a low resistance coil. It also suffered performance wise due to the resistance in the spring. Chegs idea of the copper braid is a sound one. Worked for me as my temporary bodge involving aluminium foil was a bit scary.

You can also try removing the bottom spring altogether and slightly unscrewing the bottom pin to take up the battery rattle. Improves the voltage drop as well.

They work out at about 11 quid including delivery. For about the same price you can have an M16 clone which will work out of the box without fiddling.

Tbh I can't remember where it came from, somewhere in China?
