i'm sorry if this has all ready been posted. what do you think about the smoking ban? they said quit or vape. I won't be affected because I gave up an 40 a day habit.

By 2030 I doubt there will be many analog ciggies left anyway. Look how fast things are moving right now. 11 years on we will be looking at an entirely different market all together I think.

I think it’s good in essence but also a bit of political lip service

And how will they fill the big hole created when the tax stops rolling in from cigs. Any health benefits from smoking cessation won't materialize for at least another generation so cost of health care will not drop anytime soon. Perhaps vaping will become the new cash cow for the Inland Revenue.

IF it happens, it’ll just push tobacco onto the black market. It’ll be alongside weed as illegal but something the police don’t actually do anything about. And then there’s the tax situation: vaping products will be taxed to cover the shortfall in revenue from tobacco sales. The cynic in me sees the government wanting to take advantage of and credit for people moving away from tobacco at the same time. In reality, the only thing the government have really done to encourage vaping is put tax on tobacco eye-wateringly high, and I’m pretty sure that wasn’t deliberate.

I think by 2050 vaping will be finished too.... once we've all died off.

I think it's just a passing fad for younger folk, it's not going to keep growing forever.

Do you think humanity will stop using nicotine entirely then? I’m not sure I can see that, nicotine use goes back millennia I think, in one form or another.

not entirely maybe... but it won't be common I think. Smoking is declining and 99.9% of us only vape because we smoked. I think after the smokers have either died or switch to vaping, then vaping will decline too.

we'll probably go more into the benefits for using it medially but I don't see it lasting as a recreational drug, because it's not a very good one for that.... really.

Agree totally. I think we will see a cleaned up suited and booted version of nicotine being added to healthy energy drinks with caffeine and taurine in the future.
When I tell my great grandchildren that I used to vape, they will look at me in the same bemused way my grandchildren look at me when I play a record...
Why don't you just ask alexa grandad.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was trying to think of how nicotine use would continue if smoking and vaping died out, and I could only come up with nicotine being used in medicine, as you stated above. I can very much see it becoming a prescription drug actually, somewhere much further down the line. I don’t see humans not using nicotine in any way at all.

I don’t think any of this will happen until other countries stop protecting the tobacco industry though. As it is BT have very deep pockets, and the US, for example, have a vested interest in continued tobacco sales. If tobacco is banned in the UK by 2030, I think there’ll still be a black market at that point.
