smoking ban 2030

Why would anybody who doesn't smoke or vape require nicotine. If you didn't vape or smoke you wouldn't be addicted to it. Other than certain foods what else contains nicotine in enough quantity to get addicted to.

It wouldn’t be about being addicted to it, it’d be about potential health benefits. Nicotine affects brain chemistry, there has already been some small-scale research suggesting it can help slow cognitive decline in people with Alzheimer’s disease. I have my own theories that it could in future be used to help people with mental health issues (i.e. lessoning the cognitive impairment), but I’ve not seen any research on that yet. Whilst nic is still so entwined with smoking and being an addict, it’s too early to say where research will take us.

I just don’t see the human race giving up on tobacco (or at least nicotine) entirely, in the same way I don’t see us giving up cannabis. I see the way they’re both used changing.

@Leni is right, I think there are several studies currently ongoing into the possible use of nicotine in dementia etc.
Although nicotine has been demonized through several campaigns over the decades (anyone else remember the tv ads featuring superman and nic-o-teen?) it's not the nicotine that's harmful it's all the other crap generated via combustion.

I dont see the public ever giving up on tobacco but I certainly see them giving up on the government, just more nanny state insanity, best ignored, itl just go underground......

What about gardeners out there? Nicotine has long been used as a pesticide for eons!

So whilst, maybe nicotine usage as a drug may decline over time..but Nicotine for pest control will continue to be sold in some fashion or another.

So by this date, tobacco will be illegal but weed will be commercially legal and for sale. Hmmm going to be some very stoned people if you have to smoke straight weed as you won't be able to get the tobacco to mix with [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

It will be vaped, not that hard to do :2thumbsup: Weed, it won't be legal in the UK for many decades, way beyond 2030 at least, just my opinion of course.

There are better recreational drugs than nicotine, I don't think it'll be missed.

Vaping might have been a platform for the delivery of all kinds of drugs but its association with smoking is too deeply embedded. It won't be missed either.

What's this about cigarettes being banned?

The 2030 target is to get smoking under 5% of the general population. There's no ban.
