hi there this is my first message i have left on planet of the vape and it is because i have seen something on aol about a girl smoking an ecig in mothercare and now she may lose her job through it
Worker asked to leave Mothercare over e-cigarette

Michelle Capewell, a 41-year-old from Abbey Hulton, told the
Staffordshire Sentinel that she had been asked to leave the branch of Mothercare where she works, after absent-mindedly using an e-cigarette in front of customers. She said it was in her pocket and she used it without thinking.
what do you think shoud she have got fired from her job or got a warning.

I'm all for vaping everywhere but I think she should have gotten permission first before openly vaping at work. Not worth risking your job when all she needed to do was ask the question.

She was being silly not asking for permission to vape at work. And her comment I see customers doing it all the time Well A customer can walk out the door happy or pissed off but when your jobs on the line different story.

I would not vape in a shop front if I worked in one, maybe in tearoom if your allowed.

Being fired for it straight out I dont think that was a responsible decision from the manager in question as there are rules regarding disciplinary actions to be followed and it may result in a industrial tribunal.

Bit much to sack her right off the bat (unless there's more we don't know about, like a history of warnings, or how she reacted when confronted about it). But my standard idea would be that it's the same as any other e-device: I wouldn't expect a shop assistant to be playing with their mobile while working, so same goes for a PV. It looks bad if you're doing *anything* not related to your job while on the floor, and while I'd fight to the end for vaping to be not penalised as if it's the same as smoking, we don't deserve special treatment over non-vapours. Do your job whilst being paid to do your job, play with your toys on your own time.

Stupid people should be allowed to do stupid things so they can be easily identified and avoided.

Hi There!! I think a Verbal Warning would have been sufficient!! If she's a Union member she should get them involved, Mothercare must have a Disciplinary Procedure they have to follow, saying that you don't know if it was this Girls first misdemeanor, as you know the Press are always liberal with the truth!!!:hugs:

Stupid people who do things that stupid, need the rough end of a cucumber.
Don't get me wrong, i'm up for vaping anywhere, I can get away with it. But screw ya bin, there is places NOT to it. Whether you work there or not.

Being as it was in a branch of Mothercare, the 'oh won't somebody PLEASE think of the children' brigade will probably be loving this opportunity to ram the 'dangers' of vaping down people's throats.

I mean, toddlers strapped into their buggies whilst mummy scans the aisles for something else to ramp up that credit card/payday loan debt, exposed to a toxic death cloud by some evil, chavvy, selfish cow?

One for the daily fail to latch on to and spout vitriol methinks... or am I being cynical again? ;)

Outright sacking is a bit extreme in my opinion, a warning or a quiet word would of been more productive

Some managers do ave em

I completely agree, she should have shown a bit more common sense.
