Thanks for that peps1
I'd spotted that one on Hobbyking earlier on, £12.06 from the eu warehouse. That's the trouble with clones, hard to know which ones are the good ones.
I take it this one is a clone seeing as it's new and they are discontinued? Unless there's some old stock kicking about, but still the price doesn't seem right. Seller feedback is a bit indifferent too.
Around £120 seems to be the price for a genuine FX888D. I don't mind paying some good money for something good quality that will last but that's probably pushing it a bit far for the sort of use I'd be giving it. Managed well enough with a bog standard Draper 25W for long enough lol.
Yeah, any new one, or from China will be a clone, HAKKO stopped making them a long time ago.
Most UK sellers of the clones would have pick a good clone, and at least cracked on open to check they wont get sued for selling something dangerous.
The FX range are really nice irons with the FX888D fast becoming the modern day equivalent of the 936 in terms of popularity.
If money is not a issues, the FX888D would totally be my recommendation for a hobby to pro iron, they are just seriously good quality.
