Steam Engine VG/PG Ratios

So it seems to be compensating for the amount of nic? That’s very precise.

Yup, there’s a little drop down I hadn’t noticed

Yes, the nic quantity was right (which is why I didn’t question the rest of the quantities, at the time - also wasn’t doing unflavoured). Putting the correct nic strength 7.2% makes marginal difference to the 50m PG I expected. I just thought this must be how it’s meant to be. First attempt (other than short fills) so I’m pretty clueless

Don't worry, I'm far from an expert, and I've not used that calculator before. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable than I will come along and set us all straight :D

Two things that I can see:

Regardless of what strength nic you put in, if your nic is 100% VG (as you've put in above) then it should only affect the amount of VG you add. i.e. your nic has 0% PG, so will have no effect on your PG total.

The other thing is your flavouring. The mixes above are for 12mg unflavoured mixes of 2 not-quite 50/50 ratios. If you're adding flavours, they should make up a part of your mix - usually part of your PG content.

No, that’s not right, anything that changes the volume of vg needs to change the volume of pg as well, otherwise it won’t be 50/50. The volume of nic is the proportion of the vg nic that is pure nic, ie not vg.

I think I’ve kind of fixed the ones I’ve messed up.

This probably won’t make any sense at all but this is what I have done

I incorrectly made 2 bottles of base liquid

1 bottle of base to add 20% PG flavourings (flavours weren’t added, although were part of the calculation, so I need to add 20% PG/flavourings before using)

1 bottle of base to add 5% PG flavourings

I was about to do an unflavoured batch to use if I needed to dilute flavours, but then I realised whoah this doesn’t look right. So rather than mix it I’ve added a further 10ml mix at 16 VG/84 PG into the base liquids to bring it more in line with the 50/50 I wanted.

I did mix up a few small bottles with flavours but they can just stay as they are. The nic level is right so it’s no big deal really.

In this case, what's 'pure nic' and what's VG is irrelevant - the fact is, is contains NO PG :frustratedcomputer:

In this case, the only thing that should change, depending how much nic is added, is how much extra VG is added. The nic + VG should equal 50ml. The PG should be 50ml.

If the amount of VG for some reason needs to exceed 50%, then a good calculator will tell you a 50/50 mix is not possible.

That’s not the case. 1.2% of the final liquid, in this case, is nic. Pure nic. Therefore, the total amount of vg and pg combined is 98.8%.

edited to correct decimal points.

Yes, that’s my incorrect batch ... so I added 12ml of VG too much into my 100 ml

Edit: my wrong mix was due to the omission of decimal places :54:

I am so confused where did I get that quoted message from lol

That’s not incorrect, that’s how much nic, pg and vg would be in a batch of 12mg. 1.2%, 49.4% and 49.4% respectively.
