Steam Engine VG/PG Ratios

It does change it. It’s actually a 49.4/49.4/1.2 mix.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that, I don't want to keep repeating myself. I'm out, sorry @Sprite71, I was just trying to help, but I'm obviously just confusing things more. I'll stick to doing it the simple way :D

Otherwise it would be 50/48.8/1.2. And it wouldn’t be 50/50 anymore, obviously.

But @Sprite71 I don’t think you need to be that exact, I mix 12 and 18mg 50/50 base mix then add flavour anywhere between 1-5% and it always works ok!

Is your issue because you are mixing by volume and not weight?

it's so much easier with a little scale, especially when mixing test amounts.

No, it has nothing to do with that. It seems that steam engine calculates the proportion of nic base that isn’t either vg or pg (ie it works out the percentage of pure nic) and then compensates for it. A 50/50 flavourless liquid at 12mg is 49.4 % each of vg and pg and 1.2% nic, for example.

yeah, I read that ... I mean why @Sprite71 was mixing things together pre-mxing stage.

Ah ok. I make pre mix, and then just add flavour when I want to mix a batch in a smaller bottle. But I understand many people don’t like to do this. Much less hassle for me.

I have the bottle I’ve mixed allowing for 5% flavourings which I intended to use for anything between 1% and 7% and am not worried about it not being exact (just didn’t want the nic strength dropping too much). A few are recommended for 20% flavourings so that’s got its own bottle

No, my issue was because I put 72% and 12% nic strength rather than 7.2% and 1.2% which meant I put 12ml of VG in more than I should. I did use syringes when using short fills but found it messy and inaccurate so have been using scales.

.... and it's far easier when everything is separate and calculated separately imo.

See I just find that fiddly, I tried it initially but when working with such small quantities it’s easy to go over the amount required (unless your using syringes again), it’s also harder to get it in the smaller bottle top. I don’t really fancy decanting pg/vg and nic into bottles with nozzles to make it easier and it doesn’t really make sense to me adding them all separately if I’m doing a number of bottles at once. I find it’s easier for me, more accurate (if it wasn’t for that stupid nic calculation) and less time consuming ... but what works for one doesn’t always work for another :)
