Strange jaw pain since vaping.....

So off to the dentist and she reckoned that my broken back tooth that's been like it for 20 years might be infected so gave me a weeks course of strong antibiotics to clear any infection.

When you smoke ordinary cigarettes for a number of years, your teeth build up a layer of ...erm gunk? (sorry... can't remember the actual correct term). When you switch to vaping this layer gradually dissipates, leaving your teeth exposed and can leave your teeth feeling overly sensitive for a while. It's within the bounds of possibility that the 'gunk' had been sealing your broken tooth has gone and left it open to infection.

Thanks @izzy11 I'll give that exercise a try for a few days. I'm off to see my GP on Weds anyway and will see what he reckons too but given I already take 360mg of codeine a day for chronic pain I doubt he'll be able to do much.

Hi you are welcome,:) A private dentist gave me those exerises, and its just basically staying away from hard crunchy foods, and doin the exercise a couple of times a day, dont overdo it though. Sometimes you know when its coming on as you can get sharp pains in your ear, that's how they found out I had it, thought i had an ear infection, but no it was tmj, good luck

My dentist told me that smoking is bad for your teeth, it decreases the blood flow in the gums or something like that. When you stop smoking your gums recover and so it may this that has irritated your gums / teeth. I'd also second the advice on not eating anything hard, you press your teeth into your gums more and this can set off nerve pain. Lastly, if you go to your dentist, ask if your fillings look shiny at the edges, it could be that you have started grinding your teeth more at night (since giving up), this can be helped by using a gum shield at night. I'm speaking from experience and I feel your pain, hope you get it sorted ASAP. Blossom.

Cheers Blossom I do need to go to the dentist, not been for over 5 years. But in those 5 years I've had chronic nausea so the thought of someone putting their fingers in my mouth has me quite terrified.
I'm a proper picture of health since I stopped smoking ;)

I confess I was just the same as you, didn't go for about 4 years, only the extreme agony finally made me ring up the NHS and ask for a NHS dentist!!!! Be brave, they've come along way, I didn't see a crow bar or black and decker anywhere!!! It only cost £17.50 and I had a major filling in the price as well, there and then. I think they've learnt that if they give you an appointment for a filling, you won't come back! Best of luck.

If this pesky pain continues and my GP doesn't do anything, I really don't think he can as it seems more of a dentist thing, then I'll have to. Just hope the appointment falls on a good day

Cannabis will alleviate the symptoms of nausea and help with the pain...although it may also make you believe the dentist is out to get you. :p

Unfortunately the smell of it makes me feel even worse and usually vomit
