Have a couple of these, just noticed a burnt bacon taste, only built a new coil & rewicked with cotton yesterday, found the culprit, a piece of plastic tube had slid up and was almost touching the coil contact point on one side, it was burnt at the top, its somehow slid up the 'sheaf' which the coil contact screw goes through, no idea how it got up there as it wasnt there when I recoiled!

Assume its purpose is for insulation coupled maybe with stopping juice getting down the shaft? anyhow as it was damaged due to burning, cut a fraction off the end and reassembled, however its now slightly lower than it should be, looked at Taifun GT sectional photo's on line and the plastic tube is not shown, anyone else or any advice?

My other Taifun GT Clone from a different maker is currently half full of El Toro Puros Dark and dont want to waste any of this expensive juice to take it apart and see if its the same

Cheers all

The atty will work perfectly well without the air tube or the sheath surrounding it. You can remove them altogether with no ill effects, and many people do, with the idea of increasing airflow. I'm not sure if it actually achieves this, unless the airhole in the base is also drilled out - I haven't done either with mine - but it does no harm.

Thanks for reply, its not the air hole, its where the two coil connecting screws attach into base, there is a metal tube surrounded by a plastic tube, its this plastic tube which has slid up & become burnt at top where it was almost touching coil contacts, should have took some photo's as its difficult to explain in words, for me anyhow:whiteflag:

As stated cut a little off the top of the plastic tube as it was so badly burnt, been using it since last night & no problems yet

I think it is the air hole you're describing. The one inbetween the two screws on the deck? That's where the air comes through to the coil. As said above it can be completely removed but it does make for an air-ier draw. If it works fine with the top cut off I would keep it like that, personal choice but I prefer it having a slightly tighter draw. If you're describing a different part then ignore everything I've said!

I have had a few Taifun GTs, first step was always to pull out the air tube and give the device a good wash in case of machine oil.

You have no need to worry!

will check one of mine, it has a very slight burnt taste and it is the one i replaced the deck screws on
