Teenagers who start vaping more likely to smoke cigarettes

Firstly it's the Daily Mirror. If we're lucky they will print a tiny paragraph on page 30 in a month explaining that the "research" they quoted was bollocks but they honestly didn't know that and printed it's (misinterpreted and exaggerated) results in good faith. Maybe. Not holding out much hope.

Secondly if crappy tabloids didn't keep promoting debunked "research" claiming that vaping is as bad as smoking maybe the few kids who do vape might not think "this isn't so bad so smoking must be OK too."

Thirdly rebellious teens who vape underage are likely to do other things underage as well. How long until there is a link in the gutter-press between vaping and watching porn or teenage pregnancy?

I despair when I look at the news/magazine stands in the supermarket that people buy this crap, people believe this crap and no-one gets held to account for publishing this crap. By all means produce or read fiction (even really bad, exploitative and stupid fiction if you must) for enjoyment but don't pretend or believe that it has even a passing resemblance to reality.

cigarettes are being advertised in the article as 'the real thing' ? genius!

Three times more likely than what???

If a kid is predisposed to smoke, then they'll smoke, irregardless of if they try a vape on their way to it.

This 3X figure must SURELY be supported by youth smoking rates showing a HUGE spike, right???

It's just clever manipulation of figures.

The teenagers in that 3X figure would previously have been smoking at that age. If we substitute the word "vaped" for "smoked" in 2013, the figure would be 10 times higher, so the benefits of vaping are obvious.

Previous studied have shown that the number of teenagers in the U.S. smoking and vaping combined is fewer than the number of smokers alone at any time since the fifties.

This is just more propaganda from the filthy scum who are supposed to be our medical guardians, but whose only interest is in killing people to promote the interests of the tobacco industry.

A proportion of teens are always going to try stuff, be it smoking, drinking, drugs , so of course vaping will be in there because it's illegal, pure and simple.

There are plenty of young people who fell into cigarette addiction at a young age (myself included) I wonder what I would have done were vaping an option.
I don't advocate kids breaking the law or smoking but I'm a realist and parent of an almost 20yr old who as a teen smoked briefly before she thankfully quit. I guess given the choice I'd rather my child vape (safely with equipment and juice) than smoked *of course neither is the best...but I'm talking about having to pick one.

I'd love to see these alleged statistics too!
