What's new

The new normal // documentary

Agreed. It's always been the same though - back to the Gunpowder Plot and further.

Problem is, few people would use it - QED on here ........ people don't much like to hear opposing views! :D

You will have to wait till I am totally bored and have a few days to spare. Before I give you the whole solution to the free speech problem. I could answer all of your reservations one at a time for days and still have unanswered problems.
hence utopian.

Don't beat yourself up .............. Thomas More couldn't make it work either! :D

@OzoreXS, It's all the controversy around the vaccine that scares the very pants off me, I am slap bang in the middle of the group considered 'vulnerable' and I am in no way convinced of its safety yet?
Hey mate. Its hard to say.
In one hand, we know pharma industry multiplied its resources and efforts in order to get a remedy to end the sick thats devastating us. So may make sense they achieved something extraordinary in record time.
In the other hand you can see a big part of the medical community shocked and alarmed about it, as they are convinced that theres no way they were able to get a safe vaccine ready in such a short time.
Social media and news (and fake news) are confusing us every day coz they are the first confused, E.G. one day they saying wearing a mask is useless and next day saying is the key to stop the spread... or eveyone talking about staying at home and later about the economy collapse due to staying at home. THEN WHAT FFS?

This pandemic thing isnt something new. Human kind faced pandemics before; well not such as destructive as Covid tho, maybe. The main key here is we are living this inside a tech/info new era thats keeping people more informed or misinformed than ever. Everyone has voice now, maybe a genious or maybe a moron. People trust them equally.

Sorry, I´m rambling again.

Renponding to your post, if I were in that vulnerable group of people I would take the vaccine ASAP. Im having the jab sooner or later anyway. I dont think there is other way to end this war ATM.
Consequences: lets expect the best. I know about inherited risks, but its time to move forward and do what WHO, among others, is not doing.
Nothing but death is whats to come if we just wait and wait.

is that really the case?

I was just watching this video about Wuhan .............. this is my problem:

Much as I hate fake news and conspiracy theories, who is to judge what actually is 'fake news' and what should or should not be seen? Whether you believe it or not .............. most of the reasons given for taking down 'dodgy' sites and content are also the reasons espoused by governments for shutting down people saying things they just don't like? As well as a lot of bollocks, there has been a huge benefit to the world from individuals being able to film stuff as it happens and post it up for the world to see. I'd hate to see a step taken back from that?

^^ I'm with her

Plus...and not wishing to tar @Crewella with my brush... IMO:

"Conspiracy theory" is a term used to shut down debate and quiet dissent. Banning shit and dismissing people as idiots is a dangerous path. Much better to have an increase in transparency, education and critical thinking.

Certain authorities and governments don't exactly discourage conspiracy theorists either. MK Ultra. The US gov pushing crack to fund insurgents. Iraq having no WMDs. Army copter pilots gunning down reporters and civilians. These are the kind of things that "reasonable people" dismiss as bat shit crazy.

If our goverment had demonstrated more decency, honesty and reliability in the past, people might be more willing to trust them when it came to important stuff like pandemics.

I agree with you - whole heartedly as a rule

But - this isn’t the time IMO - questioning authority and it’s behaviour should be encouraged. But not at the risk of spreading a very real virus

wait till after - and just get in with the very obvious step of the fewer people you see - the quicker it will go.

Where the virus came from, how it’s been dealt with - what will be the knock on effects for years to come area all valid requests and should be looked into - once the infection rates are at controllable levels.

stopping lock downs until that point in time is for my money just going to make it take longer

@MHL - I do have to say tho, the words “conspiracy theory” may be used on occasions to shut people down, but it’s also used to describe some actual pretty bat shit theories - look at IKE and all the flat earthers - in my book the people that think this is all about control and not real or being exploited to create a new world order are getting dangerously close to those crazies.

I realise that any of the more err “fringe” theorists would say ive been sucked in by the propaganda of the mainstream.
I of course in turn would say they have been sucked in by the conspiracists.

the difference is the mainstream is backed by peer reviewed evidence and science - where as the fringe relies on pseudo science and testimony from fringe practitioners, with the odd fringe hovering scientist thrown in.

it’s up to each of us to believe what we want - I choose the peer reviewed path.

I know @HAZZA1962 has said there is no evidence lockdowns work - and yet the first one clearly did - we saw a massive drop in numbers.

we saw a huge rise when everyone was allowed To intermix at Christmas (the results of which we are seeing now)

it makes sense to me.

is there some hard peer reviewed evidence anywhere that not locking down works?
Genuine question
