This is a brass threads thread!

I'm quite pissed off to find that the Smok Bec Pro mod I bought last year at an £80 price point has got brass threads which have now stripped past the point of being rescued with a heatsink. It had a diabolical menu system but it was punchy (last year) at 50w and I liked the look and feel of it. It's Bluetooth function utterly pointless of course but brass threads at £80? Wrongness. You can go Roger yourselves Smok I'll never buy anything from you again you bunch of butt munchers.

I fixed my budget sigelei mini with a new 510 but for most folks it would be cheaper to buy a new mod than buy the various tools required to make this repair.

Anyway if you know of any other mods with brass 510 threads please list them here so I and maybe some others don't get screwed over again.

Thanks,
MM

Not all brass is the same just as not all stainless steal is the same, I have had many devices over the years with brass 510's and never had a thread problem. Brass can be used to make excellent 510 connections, it has electrical conductivity many times greater than stainless steal's.

In all cases the atty threads should be kept clean...how many of us clean the threads? Some brass is tougher than stainless steal...Naval Brass for example. I have a 40w TC mod...that came with brass threads. I tried scratching it with a scalpel...it didnt mark!

Believe me or not, but here is a link to the brass I mentioned!

I always clean threads especially those metals, alloys, susceptible to galling or cold welding.Ive known people with alu flashlights not being able to unscrew the battery cap because of it,usually caused by dirt in fne threads add pressure and friction hello galling :D

[edit] After cleaning threads I always lube of course :)

I believe you mucker but how many brass 510s have the better quality constitution you speak of? Maybe I'm just clumsy but my work mods do sometimes get dropped (building sites) and a £30 KSD Vamo is virtually indestructible and a £80 Smok first wears from occasional usage and completely strips after 2 minor drops.

I hear you though, brass is not necessarily bad. I'd still swerve it given a choice mind

You say that, but many on here run high end brass or copper mecs...with brass or copper 510's or hybrids with no problems. You saying you have a Vamo...well I still have the original from when they first came out, they were supposed to have butter threads but mine is still perfect!

Over tightening any atty to any device will eventually FUBAR something, especially if the threads are all dirty and full of grit!

There was me hoping this was a rant about mods being brass. My Vamo V1 is brass now the finish has worn off. Still going strong.

i spend all day cleaning and deburring threads at work, very sound advice.

The only brass thread problem I've had is the propensity for lock rings to take their locking job too seriously. Not happened for a fair while now though.

I tinker with watches and use grease on back plates n seals...a little dab of silicon grease will do ya! ;)

What's the best way to clean threads? Some of the 510 connections on my atties have some black paint on them from screwing them into those cheapo stands from FT.
