Copper bar is available as workable off cuts for not too much, once you go into large scale production, the returns of buying in bulk come into play, but for a one off it seemed to be about fifty quid in materials max to turn a 26xx0 mod in the vein of the 49. And that would leave material for other projects. 18xx0 mods were significantly less expensive. I do have access to m20x1mm taps and dies and I got myself an m7x.5mm tap this month that works well.

The other thing thats interesting me is a mosfet based box mod running lipo cells, basically an electronic mech, I'm pretty sure that once word gets out it'll be the new direction cloud chasing heads in because we are rapidly approaching the limits of current delivery from round cells and high current buck/boost circuits are not cheap or easy to implement.

I'm aware of that one Chegs but its buck only, buck/boost means you can go above your input voltage as well as below it. Whilst I'm happy with series wired cells as you are, many vapers insist that if you "stack" cells the earth will stop turning, the skies will darken and fire and brimstone will reign fron the heavens.

Now imagine unleashing a mod that HAS to either run a funny rectangular battery or two li-ion cells in series (yeah I know about the billet box, that seems to be an anomaly) and explaining to vapers that if they run the huge runtime set up, they really need to buy a hobby charger and a 240vac - 12vdc power supply and a balance lead to maintain said battery in a safe and usable condition. Oh and this battery, it really really does vent with flames if things dont go right, it doesn't just get hot, it doesn't limit itself to 30amps, its capable of 150+amps and if it gets unhappy, it really does explode.

Because if you dont point that out, some smart arse on a forum will. Its not really a marketable product to me, and in this thread I've got my selling to joe public head on rather than my " lets build an insane device for ourselves" head on

I doubt that 18650's are going to remain as the main source of portable power for much longer,we are already seeing 26650 mods appearing and I recall reading something somewhere that battery technology has recently jumped one of the major hurdles with batteries(big power output meant big physical size)as they were talking about large outputs from hearing aid/watch sized batteries(though this large output might've been me dreaming)

My Vamo arrived with 2x18350's in the box,so people are obviously happy to stack small batteries.I'm not going to list all the mods that take 2 stacked batteries as I'm sure you'll still correct me in places.I also know of mod builders that offer a return it & have their mods repaired service,as there is no obvious method to open it up (due to the powder coating/paint finish covers the screw heads)so if we built a box mod which had a socket through which the device gets charged,and added the correct charger to the final product packaging,solving that issue.

As for trusting people with LiPo batteries in case they cause them to vent,the media is in love with quoting scare stories about "Mrs Braindead bought her ego from a yob in the pub whilst pissed out her remaining brain cell,left it plugged in for 3 months & it exploded & set her council house on fire" So,if creating a mod with LiPo cells kills a few of the "stupid people" gene pool the world becomes a nicer place.

My mods are intended for me alone anyway,if asked I would build one for those that requested it but I would also expect them to understand the risks with the batteries and not plug it in to recharge and feck off on holiday/take dog for walk/go to bed etc.

Sigh,that's the problem I have.With only one head,I just ramble on and on in the hope that it makes sense eventually,but not this time.I can see the problem though can't figure out how to fix it.I started with a "first" and can't see a "second"

Chegs sorry buddy I wasn't poking holes at you, just trying to explain my own rationale, as I say, I wouldn't sell some of the things I would choose to use myself, despite me liking the Darwin effect you describe, it trbds to be frowned upon generally.

Sorry if I caused offence that wasn't my intention.
