Labo cotton - perhaps just a tiny tiny tiny slight edge over Muji
but long wait if buying from Japan, bit thinner than Muji so wider strips
(or a couple of less strips cut from a thinner Lobo pad than thicker Muji)

I do remember coming across posts on here when I was new to the forum that some vapers used to do this in the early days of vaping with cotton.

So yes it is possible. A pointless waste of time, but possible.

It’s entirely possible and safe but @oldhippydude is right. It will be a nightmare trying to form it into the right shape and get it to hold together to put it in the coil.

I’ve used boots organic cotton pads before when I didn’t have anything else to hand and it worked fine.

My wife buys cotton balls not sure why ... womens stuff i suppose ... anyways good to know they can be use if needed but think I will stick with firebolt :)

For a while I used Coil Master Pro Cotton Balls. How useful the balls are will depend on how well they can be unwrapped and cut to requirement.

Yes, you can boil cotton to remove impurities. But watch any demonstration video and you'll see it takes multiple attempts with rinsing in between to get rid of all the shite in it. Considering the price and availability of vaping cotton there's really no point going down that route, IMHO.
