:newhere: So Please be gentle with me.

I decided to try and mix my own and thought I would start with a single flavour of my favourite which is Hazelnut. So from my regular e juice supplier I take a peek in their DIY section and notice nicotine base and hey my fave hazelnut (which is by flavour west) I happily order and a couple of days later the package arrives.

No instructions.

I start digging about and come across you guys. I find the PotV calculator and duly install in on my phone. I mess about with it...don't understand and read a lot of stuff that gets me a little worried. For instance I seem to have a pretty high lvl nic base. It's 75mg PG. I understand I need to introduce some VG. Would the type for food use be ok or am I looking for medical grade?

So back to the PotV calculator. I enter the base as 75PG. But what is the slider bar below that about? I understand the strength bit and quantity (Flavour West recommend 15-20% be used)

I have pipettes, syringes bottles and gloves (I have to admit to being a little shocked at how toxic the nic base is)

I hope someone can help me out. I feel like I am sitting my chemistry exams again and it's been a hell of a long time since I was in school! Once I have started on this I bet I will have a whale of a time, I am just a little bit nervous on this 1st go in case I make a total pigs ear out of it.

Hi geekette and welcome to the planet - I'm not sure if I can answer fully as I'm on a pc at the mo' - however, let's see what I can help you with here as a phone user will be along soon(ish, they might all be in bed right now!) to help with the bits I can't :)

VG - you can get in Boots or any chemist with a pharmacy(as glycerine) or some members use the Dr Oetker's stuff or similar from the supermarket, so either type is fine. If the chemist asks what you want it for, I generally say baking/cough syrup as some pharmacists aren't really that happy about vaping...

next - on the PC this (below) is approximately what comes up on screen for the input (but in table form with adjustable inputs for amounts) I'm assuming if there's one of these factors missing it could be what the slider changes - or have you tried putting in random numbers to trial it and seeing what factors the results pane gives you? If all else fails just contact Support and they'll help you :)

Base Nicotine Strength mg
Dilutant (Water/Alcohol) (optional) %
Flavouring %
Drops per ml drops
Final Nicotine Strength Required mg
Final Quantity Required ml

I'm not sure if that really helps :umm: so I do apologise!

geekette The slider is for you to input your required PG/VG personally I go 30pg and 70vg as to much pg seems to irritate my throat but it is just personal preference. What pg/vg mix were your store bought juices? as if these were to your liking use the slider to input that mix hope this helps cheers mick

The slider is for your preferred propylene glycol/vegetable glycerin mixture (PG/VG)so you simply slide the button across the screen until you arrive at the required percentages of each.

Input the base nicotine strength (72/75 etc)
The strength of the required juice (12mg/18mg etc)
The quantity in mls (10/12/30/100 etc) of the bottle you wish to make
The flavouring percentage Hazelnut 10%/20% etc

There should be a little "Calculate" button under the flavouring list, hit that.

Then you should see a new popup window telling you the required ml of each ingredient, starting with nicotine/PG/VG/flavouring which you measure, pour into bottle, replace cap on bottle & give a thorough shake/stir/label & that's your juice. It might require steeping(stuck in a safe place for a few days to a couple weeks)

You lot are great!

I think I am getting it now. My only remaining question really is about the base.

With my nic base being pg do I use pg AND vg? I have seen water mentioned which is why I am curious. I have no idea what % my fave flavour is pg/vg wise. I would guess that starting at 50/50 and experiment would be the way to go. The concentrate is PG.

I bought some VG and some extra syringes today. The chemist was amused when I told her what they were for.

Any particular recommendations for buying PG?

I really hope I am as useful to noobs at some point in the future :lovesign:

Most commercial liquid is 70/30 pg to vg. Unless you're happy to vape very high vg ratios you'll need to buy some pg. It's cheap as chips on eBay, look for pharmaceutical grade

Shopping list for Homebrew is
Nicbase
Pg
Vg
Flavour concentrates
Some assorted syringes and a blunt needle
Disposable gloves if you're very nervous and/or terminally clumsy
Empty bottles to store your Creations in.
