Hi Guys,

In the process of making a "hookah" Mod running 12v DC,
Got all my circuit down for what I'm doing, no problems there, the only real difference between this and a regular mod is I want to use an air flow switch instead of your normal push-to-make button. Naturally the switch need just an on/off function SPST setup (or SPDP doesn't really matter air will only be flowing in one direction).

Looking to find something like they use in the commercially available "E Hookah Head" like the Aspire Proteus or "One Shisha Head" but I bet there parts that would work that are designed for the use in boilers or something along those lines.....
trouble is after many hours searching I'm coming up with nothing......:17:

HELP!!!!

I toyed with this idea in the past. They used to be available years and years ago. Best idea I came up with was salvaging one from a cheap cig style vape.

Yeah... Thing is.... if you remember those cheap e-cigs from the past you really have to draw quite hard on them :17:

there must be something out there as the "mainstream manufactures" are making heads already but....
Your then limited to that specific coil/tank they want you to use.... and I don't like the sound of that :angrymob:

I think that is the reason most modders abandoned the idea of using this style switch. As you will be holding the head/handle regardless maybe a capacitive switch may be the way to go to give a more natural feel?

Great info :2thumbsup:

That's an avenue that is defiantly worth exploring one thing I did notice though.....
Wires are a bit thin..... could possibly solve this with a MOSFET or something just using that as a triggering mechanism???

EDIT: I WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO USE ONE OF THOSE IF THEY WORKED BY "HEARING" THE AIRFLOW AND NOT ON PRESSURE?

IDEALY I WANT TO MOUNT SOMTHING ON TOP OF THE MOUTHPIECE/TANK SO IT DETECTS WHEN AIR FLOWS THROUGH IT..... THUS ALLOWING UNIVERSAL FITMENT TO ANY TANK???

just watched a couple of clips of mods using them and there all using clearo tanks on them....
I need one of these babys a bit more beefed up - Think that... but on steroids :happy guys:

do you know anyone who as incorporated on of those into what we now consider as ecigs i.e. sub-ohms??

I appreciate all your information really helping out :thankssign:

I keep pretty up to date with even the most obscure builds and haven't seen anything like this about. I guess it's due to the hassle to avoid clicking something that is already in your hand ;P. I'd definitely recommend only using it to trigger the gate on a MOSFET, doesn't matter about current ratings then. What circuit where you planning on using for your build? I'd be interested in butchering one of these 'hookah heads' though, I'm sure that could be easily modified to incorporate into a build.

Looks like another good idea, can tell you have done some previous digging into this!
Maybe have a small capacitive switch actually on the mouth piece so it only fires once at your lips? although that sounds a bit like a H&S disaster even if only using low current and then a FET to actually deliver the current to the load

Wanting to use the 120w Raptor Chip - in conjunction with a Smok tank (TFV8 from memory??) - I only have ever vaped one of those up to about 110W so the 120w chip should be ok, no point in me getting the 200w Raptor for the time being.

While raptors are great, I'd definitely give consideration to a pwm build. Is the direction higher power mod design has gone lately...Many circuit diagrams and premade boards available these days, and would offer some flexibility for your switch ideas too.
