It was a Four - Nine, with a Tobh. A combination that lots of people say is a no-no due to the Tobh's virtually flush centre pin and the four - nines Hybrid cap, That still doesn't explain his injuries - the straight line burn suggests one thing to me - Flames from the drip tip, that could only be caused by burning e-liquid and wick - unless the atty was destroyed in a catastrophic fashion! For battery venting to have done that it would have had to blow the centre pin out of the deck then vent trough the hole left behind.
Given that he was using a Four - nine then I think thats unlikely as the button would have blown out or the hybrid top cap - everything on the mod is made of softer materials than the atty so they would be the likely first point of failure...

I agree & it wasn't until you mentioned it that it occurred to me. I did a recap on the 4nine & the only vent holes in the top cap would be blocked off well & truly by a dripper. That & the fact that there is ventilation in the switch.
Maybe the battery did vent or maybe it didn't but either way you could be on the money there. Unless he licked the jam knife & faked the whole episode. Poor fellas learned the hard way anyway.

The injury looks very much like a contact burn, which proves what I've always thought, deep throating a red hot dripper isn't always a good idea.
He should have stuck with being less adventurous and only taking the tip into his gob.

It wasn't a Tobh, it was an Atlantis. Makes little difference but I am a stickler for facts. No one enjoys a good stickle more than I. Stickle, stickle, stickle - I've been at it since puberty.

What it ought to ram home to people is that if you're going to vape and not do your due diligence then prepare for social media to laugh at you and call you names.

If that picture above is truly what his setup looked like afterwards then it was a battery vent, no coil/cotton/liquid ignition could have done that.
